Default towing (2007 ES350)

I have a mechanic who suggested that I not bother replacing my ES350 with someting more robust for lightweight camper towing. I am considering towing a camper weighing 1700 #. He is convinced that I need not bother upgrading to an RX or to a Toyota Highlander given the weight of the trailer.
I know Lexus says 1000#. Anyone have any experience with towing a light weight camper trailer with an ES350?

They all have the same engine and transmission and brakes. The RX and Highlander advantage is they have available tow packages with extra engine oil coolers and transmission oil coolers.
I think the Highlander tow limit is 3,000 lbs. I think your mechanic is right and you can easily tow that trailer.

The hitches available at etrailer are listed at 3500 lbs. https://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2007_Lexus_ES+350.htm
