Default Replacing leather driver seat cushion

My es350 driver seat (bottom) has developed multiple cracks and tearing appart.
got a quote from local car upholstery to replace leather bottom completely for $570 with all the work.

The guy said they will order same leather and color (but not OEM part) as used lexus and it will look identical.
Not sure if this is reasonable price for upholstery shop.

Seems like a good deal to me. Difficult to find a used seat in decent shape, you don't want to know what a new seat would cost.

yeah, lexus only sells entire seat with cushion, and that is over $1000 not including labor. If the guy is not BSing, he said they order leather from same supplier that Lexus uses (same exact color), will see…
I saw old Rolce Royce there getting work done , hopefully they do decent work

You can get it from ebay for $160 and install it yourself.

Get it from ebay and take it to a local body shop. They have lower labor rates and do this type of work all the time dealing with accident damage. Get a few estimates.
Cash will be cheaper than their insurance company rates, so tell them no insurance is involved.

Post #13 here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-3rd-gen-2001-2006/919851-torn-perforated. I think that’s your best bet.

I am really surprised that in 10 years driver seat leather is done.
I was applying leather conditioners quiet often from the start. Btw, leather in rest of car looks excellent.

Being a natural material with likely differences from the animals they use... I would not be surprised to see variations in leather life from one batch of vehicles to another

It's also not just 10 years. What kind of driving? More miles more wear.. high city miles for highest wear as you're in and out of the car often. Also how much do you weigh, how much do you shift around in your seat, how do you get out of your seat..

car is not used a lot, 100k miles, and normal
weight 170lb 6ft tall. I had leather in other cars, nothing like that happened with far more miles and years.
its probably a bad batch, cant be normal.

I have a post about this, fairly recently. Replaced mine with real leather.

I made a decision not to DIY. Auto upholstery shops seem to be the best option, the dealer is prohibitively expensive
