Default 2012 Lexus ES 350 transmission issue.

Hello, has anyone have an idea what could've happened? I was driving normally on a highway and when I got to town I started accelerating and the engine just reved up with no go, I released the gas and pushed again and started going again. Then later on at the light slightly pushing on the gas same thing happened again. Then I stopped in a parking lot and tried to put in reverse and I heard grinding noise and some small bang and then it did not move to reverse. I was able to drive 0.2 miles back to my apartment but the transmission was grinding and making bad noises. I killed the engine and started again and I can hear something doesn't sound right, put in reverse and immediately warning light came on that said "shift to p". I am freaking out and don't know why it happened and what caused it. Any help is appreciated.

That sucks, such a sudden failure out of the blue. Find a shop and tow it to them, sounds like your transmission gave out. How many miles are on the car? Have you ever had the transmission fluid replaced?

207k, haven't changed it. You think it is savable?

Based on your description it needs a new transmission, but I can’t diagnose something like that over the internet. It needs to be inspected to make sure it’s not something else.

Wait I just realized, you’re the same person who had a chirping noise thread! I remember that video of a vibration like noise you had and you said it would come and go based on your throttle. This makes so much sense now.

One other thing to check is whether it’s your CV axles, before condemning the transmission. Good luck, this sounds bad.

Yep that's me. After taking to 3 mechanic shops that told me they can't find anything wrong this happened. I will take it back to the same shop that told me my car is completely fine. Them a******s couldn't find it and now my transmission went out.

It can be a bad solenoid but also maybe something else. You have to read the codes.

I think your transmission has failed.
With that many km which is about 128,000 miles your best investment, if it is needed, would be a used transmission. A new one would cost as much as the car is worth and then you still have an aging engine etc to worry about.

I thought the mileage was stated in miles not km, so the car is over 200k miles. I could be wrong though.

Yeah it's over 200k miles, they will check it out and see. Maybe that is what caused the noise. How much you think it is to rebuild a transmission?

If you take it back to the guy who could not find source of your previous problem, WHY would you go back to him now.
Glutton for punishment?

I live in a town where there is like 3 mechanic shops and others don't even look good or trustworthy. One time when I went to the other shop, they even recommended me to go to another. Not many choices here so I'm stuck with what I have.
