2007 Lexus ES 350
My vehicle is a 2007 Lexus ES 350 and my engine light came on. Codes came up p0441 incorrect purge flow; P0455 (gross leak detected) and C1201 BrakeBoost Sensor Circuit. So I took it to the Lexus dealer and they did a diagnostic and a couple of tests they said and stated my gas cap needed to be replaced because air was seeping and it wasn’t tight. I authorized the work. The lights went out and I left.
The next day, I drove it and the lights (engine, vsc, and the squiggly lines) came back on. I took it back to the dealer, but first went back to auto zone to test to see what the codes were. Codes were the same as above when I originally took my vehicle to the dealer. They checked it again and it was almost a 3 hour wait. They said I needed 2 hoses, (large hoses) and they cost $185 each, but they had to order them. They said my hoses were hard and needed to be placed and that would cost me almost $700. I already paid for the diagnostic and gas cap almost $300. It is as if they are guessing and charging me every time they miss it and try something else. The codes are p0441 replace Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid and this is what I told them the code was, but that has not been replaced. I am not sure what to do at this point. Any recommendations? Not sure how this works. Need help.

How many miles are on it?
A 15 year old car will have many parts start to fail on a regular basis. If those hoses really need replacing, then your coolant will also be replaced at the same time. But that is too much money for that job.
I would not trust a dealer on this, get a second opinion from an independent shop.
A dealer is the last place to take your car, they will oversell stuff you don't need and overcharge for everything, especially diagnosis.
If you live near Silver Spring, MD take it to Satellite Motors as they are an excellent independent Toyota - Lexus specialist.

FYI a code number does not necessarily mean that part needs to be replaced. They need knowledge and experience to do further diagnostics to get at the real problem causing that code.

When I had a p0441 on my 2002 ES300, I had to replace the charcoal canister.
They need to do a smoke test to find the leak. Takes Clutchless' advice and go to Satellite motors- I've heard great things about them. Plus they will do a comprehensive check to see if any other issues need to be addressed

Thanks for your recommendations. I followed clutchless advice and took it to satellite motors today. Thanks clutchless 👌😁 I was most impressed. They showed me some issues regarding my vehicle the Lexus dealer failed to tell me. I will not be returning to Lexus because this one in Virginia lacks integrity.
So far, my engine light is off, I will drive for a few days to ensure the problem was soled. Now I can focus on getting the maintenance done along with other things I need. It’s a good distance from where I live, but it’s worth the ride. Thanks again for the recommendation!!

What did Satellite repair and what did they find that the dealer missed? Are your concerns solved?
Was it the Lexus dealer in Alexandria or the one in Chantilly? I have been to Alexandria and actually bought a couple of cars from them. I only had them do warranty covered repairs.
I can recommend some great independent shops in the Alexandria and Springfield area that work on Toyota & Lexus if that is closer.

Chosen66 - I am ok with satellite right now. So far my concerns are solved as long as my engine light doesn’t come back on. I am driving it and will give it to the end of the week. The hose was replaced with a new one and connected. They replaced my evap hose going from intake to purge flow or something like that. They showed me the hose that was disconnected, hard, cracked, and partially missing. if my light comes back on I will return to them. There was only one code when satellite did a diagnostic and that was improper purge flow, P0441
The Lexus dealer said I had a po441 and po448 code when I took it back after they replaced my gas cap. I know they had to see the hose that was disconnected before they replaced the gas cap. They are mechanics they should look at those parts. I don’t look under the hood, but I will for now on. I am learning more about my car other than the exterior part.
Lexus did a diagnostic and I waited 3 hours only to end up with the same problem I had coming in after paying them. They didn’t solve my problem. So Thank you. I will let you know how things work here. So far, so good. We’ll see by weeks end if my problem is truly solved. 😀
