The new styling theme translates well onto the new ES. I think it looks good. What I'm not feeling as much is the new interior styling Lexus is showing us. It is pretty much a variation on the GS interior. While the door panels look nice I still haven't warmed to the shelvy, horizontal geometry of the dash. I sat in the new GS in Chicago just last weekend and while it's well finished the dash design doesn't appeal to me very much. the New ES has essentially the same qualities.

Question DropDown Box

It kind of looks like a cutout to the bottom left of the steering wheel -- ponder if that is like the drop down control box of the 3rd generation GS ... ?

Very few people liked that control box, on the 4GS, it became an empty coin holder box. I am sure it is the same arrangement on the 6ES.

that drop down box in the 3gs, imho, is one of the dumbest thing in the car. at least 08+ they moved the trunk and gas door buttons outside

Yeah I hated banging my knee on that stupid drop down panel. At least 08 and up was a tad shorter and didn't drop down as low as 06-07.

I see that it also has the mouse-control thing on the center console the same as the RX and new GS has. I played with this in the GS at the Chicago Auto Show and found it quite touchy and overly sensitive. It took quite a delicate touch to keep from overshooting the icon or selection you wanted. Is there a way to adjust the control/ curser speed on this?

lol, that's exactly what they're doing! that's a good move for branding.
yep.. i dont understand the "too good" mentality... if they dont make it "too good", then someone else will take the sale.

I still like overall design of the new GS better. It's more aggressive and classy. Looking at the new ES more and more I don't really like the extended hood line in it at all. However, the taillight looks pretty good.

exactly. i thought it's cool too when i first saw it on the 06 gs, but when you have to pop it open all the time, and then forget and hit it with your knees every now and then, you start to curse about it

I use that drop panel maybe twice a month. It's nice having the buttons hidden away for a cleaner look.
