Default Open/Close trunk with Key Fob

I've got a 2013 ES350 UL

The trunk can be opened with the key fob and closed with a button no the trunk. The website says it opens and closes with the key fob and the button inside the car. Right now, it's not closing with either, only the button on the trunk.

Has anyone else figured this out?

I'm not really sure here, but think about the liability here if you could close the trunk remotely and there was something or someone that could be hit by the trunk lid. BTW, what does it say in your owner's manual? If it were me, i"d want to be around a closing trunk.

I can only relate to my wife's 2004 RX and that one would reverse to open if it touched even the lightest of resistance. Don't think it would hurt a kitty, in that case.

usually in lexus vehicles, there is a button in the glove box that acts as a master switch. Make sure it is not pushed, its the trunk button lockout.

what bothers me about most lexus sedan trunks is that the trunk does not bounce open but instead just releases and then you have to manually pull it open

I also wondered about that as I'm about to order the option on a new ES350 and asked a sales rep last week but got an "I'm not sure about that" answer. Also mentioned the liability issue.

Let us know when you get it figured out. And enjoy the new car.

The new ES opens all the way when you push the button.

A friend of mine has an RX and the back gate opens and closes with the button. I want that. I'd look at the manual, but it's huge. I guess I'll have to sit down with it when i get some time. I've always thought if it were too hard to me to figure out, then they made it too hard for everyone. I can usually figure things out on my own.

thats interesting because the GS does not bounce open. I wonder if it is only on the power trunk models. I have a 2002 IS300 and that is one of my biggest gripes with the trunk, especially when you have your two hands full. My C class on the other hand has a trunk that pops open

i bet that's what it is. There is an electric sound while it opens. My previous lexus (2010) only opened a little.
