Need feedback.

If I were to take the stock 8"sub out which is a downfiring sub into the trunk, and replace it with a standard 8" sub that fired up into the car, would the acoustics and air vibrate the heck out of the rear of my car? Or is it best to stick with a down firing shallow mount 8" sub? Does anyone know the RMS output of the mark levinson amp for the sub channel? And I am assuming the speaker is a standard 4Ohm speaker, has anyone measured theirs when it was not connected to the amp? If I replace my sub on my own I want to make sure I closely match the rating of the old sub so I don't over draw the amp.

Thanks for your help.

Last time I spoke to harman regarding this issue, it sis not appear that they were eager to come out with a good solution to our problem.

If I were you, I'd just get something like this

Built in amp, doesn't take up a lot of space. Then when Lexus does come out with a fix, you could just disconnect it and they will never know it was there.

At the rate Lexus and Harman are going to resolve this issue, we will all be looking for a new car because ours are to old.

300h? I think a poll is in order for this issue. I have no idea how this is set up in the hybrid. Is the down firing sub still visible in the trunk, or do the batteries block it?

I believe the batteries block it.

If that's the case, that would be a problem.

The sub is still visible in the trunk and I do not think the setup is different.

I have tested it with bass heavy songs at a high volume ( above 40 ). Before the sub would distort and now it sounds great.

Ask for the service manager

I think the setup needs to be different in the 300h, vs the 350. I'm glad to hear the sub is visible, but the tuning of it should be adjusted for the different overall cavity volume.

I think cabinet volume size affects low frequency response a lot more for really small enclosures, much smaller than car trunks! The difference in trunk volume between the 350 and the 300h won't move the woofer's resonant frequency so much to be that noticeable, especially considering the apparent amount of care Harman Becker put into the ES ML's tuning.

Maybe not the size, so much, as the shape and distance to the nearest reflective object.

Reflections are a concern on the listening side of a speaker system. When you're talking wavelengths of 10 to 60 feet (roughly 20 to 100 Hz), there are no reflections in an acoustic suspension enclosure (the trunk).

Then we're back at the enclosure dynamics. Do you agree density can have an affect? I'm sure the batteries are more dense than the empty trunk enclosure. Ever heard the effects on bass in a concrete basement, vs. an open framed room?
