Default Eco v. Normal v. Sport MPG

On the ES350, does anyone know the expected difference in MPG between running on Eco v. Normal v. Sport? What are people's experience?

See my post in the Gas Mileage thread. I got my best results so far with the Sport mode. I wonder if it is too dependent on driving style to be comparable from person to person.

Don't really know about the difference in MPG, but I always drive my ES in Sport Mode. Normal or (especially) Eco modes just make the car too sluggish IMHO.

I'm averaging about 25.5 MPG in combined highway/city driving using Sport Mode almost exclusively.

With my ESh I tried Eco and the car is so sluggish it seems to stay in power mode longer just to gain speed. I have not tried Sport, but Normal seems a best combination of economy and power. I found the same thing on my RX450h.

Since I bought the ES300h on 8/15, I've tried ECO on one single tank of gas; I noticed my average MPG was 1 MPG higher using ECO, but like on my previous HS250, I feel I need more power on tap. So I went back to NORMAL, and I've averaged an overall 40.25 mpg with 1,950 on the odometer. (Most of those miles have been in city driving.)

I haven't even tried SPORT, since NORMAL seems quite spontaneous and plenty powerful for my driving needs.

I sure do love this car!

"I got my best results so far with the Sport mode"

This actually makes sense. Getting up to cruising speed quickly after the ICE has come on assists in getting higher FE. I have found whether you accelerate slowly or briskly, FE is about the same. When you accelerate slowly, you are getting low FE for a longer period of time as compared to faster acceleration. Once at the desired cruising speed, FE jumps significantly and would be maintained for a longer period of time as compared to slower acceleration.

Wow I like this logic...and I'm gonna try SPORT mode. Sounds like I can have even MORE fun on those highway entrance ramps!
