Professor, congrats on the new car, and congrats also on declining the pre-paid maintenance plan. The session with the finance person can be a pain.

We recently bought a new Audi and got a hard sell on their pre-paid plan. It went on and on and finally the fianace person said "I just don't understand why you don't want it". I finally said "I have my reasons, let's just move on and get this over". After that we were done in just a few minutes.

Next time I buy a car, when I go into the finance office, before I sit down, I'm gonna say, "If you try to sell me something extra, I'm walking out."

Thats a great deal Professor. My guess is thats why they rode you so hard in the finance department, they wanted to try and make some of that back.

Thats one of the nice things about leasing...they don't try as hard to sell you all that stuff because you have a built in reason for declining it...its a lease.

Extended warranty
Maintenance plans
Paint/interior protectants
Wheel/tire Insurance
Lost key insurance
Ding/dent removal
Etc.

The finance guys are pit bulls.
Big profits for the dealer and commission for the finance guy.
I just enter the office and say I here to sign the paperwork and don't want any extras.

Lost key insurance HAHAHAHA, thats the best. I mean...I get it the keys are expensive...but the idea of it is pretty funny.

"But sir, what happens if you drive over your keys, destroying your keys and puncture a tire? If you don't have the tire and key insurance where will you be then? WHERE WILL YOU BE THEN!?" lol

You only have to loose two keys to make it worth it! Never mind I've never lost a key in 20 years LOL

ok, I guess the finance people are pit bulls to everyone. I thought that the guy was just making up for the fact that I wore down the salesguy to the price that I wanted. I was quite surprised that I had leeway to negotiate so much with Lexus. I would have thought that places like Lexus and Acura and Infiniti were more of the "1 bottom line pricing" model. Yeah the finance guy did the hard sell on all listed above except for the gap coverage plan. I will say that the salesperson that I dealt with was a pleasure to work with.

congrats ProfessorP, that is an awesome deal. The Fremont dealership did not respond to my call or email on time and did not check them out as much as the other. They did not have the color I wanted at that time so I did not bother much.

I refused the extra warranty stuff as well. he finance guy was a bit of an *** and the sales person told me who usually uses the finance manager but he was not in that day even though he was the one who approved my financing options.

Cheers

thanks...the only minor regret I had was that I never did find the bottom. That is, I never did go down to a price where they said no. Makes me wonder how much lower I could have gone.
