Nuluxe is Luxury?
#76
NuLuxe is basically a lightweight, durable synthetic leather. It's a material that first made it's appearance on the CT 200h. The material is not cheap feeling at all and is a lot more durable and less prone to wear and wrinkling than normal leather. It's a really nice material and feels very substantial.

This shouldn't bother you as the Avalon is the Toyota flagship and the ES being Lexus' entry level model. A fully loaded Avalon Limited is priced where a moderately priced ES would start. Softex is Toyota's version of NuLuxe. True all Avalon grades come with leather but again it's preference in what you're exactly looking for and what your budget is. For reference, the Avalon's warranty is 3yr/36k basic and 5yr/60k powertrain and 2 years free Toyota Care maintenance. Lexus on the other hand offers 4yr/50k basic 6yr/70k powertrain, first 2 scheduled service visits are free, but you do get the option of driving a Lexus loaner and the other Lexus dealer amenities Toyota doesn't offer. The Avalon is a lot more engaging to drive than the ES. It's about what you value.

The Avalon is closer to the LS and the ES is closer to the Camry.

I do like leather, but have Nulux on my 2013, It is quite acceptable in every way. That said, I have leather on my wife's RX and it is fine, low miles, garage kept, and minimal passenger use.
But, my experience in general, and my observations is that the leather used by most Japanese automakers does not hold up well. It seems that it is cut a bit too thin.
Compare it to the leather on a Cadillac , or a Jaguar, and you will see what I mean,

Honda and Acura leather is the worst.

Note that, of the 6 Lexus and Toyota models that share components, 5 of them are SUVs. The only sedan model comparison that makes any sense is the ES/Avalon comparison.

To be clear the LS is not related to the Avalon.
Also, the IS has nothing to do with the Corolla..totally different platforms, again the Corolla is a FWD car, IS is a RWD car.
You should do some research into Lexus vehicles before posting.

Cleaning Nuluxe
While we are on this topic, any suggestions for cleaning the nuluxe? My last Lexus had actual leather and I used a leather cleaner that help keep that new car/leather smell. I'm reluctant to use that on the new lexus with the Nuluxe. The owner's manual is pretty generic.

I have owned my beige Nuluxe equipped 2013 ES350 for 7.5 years, It is perfect, easy to clean, no wear spots, no cracking at the seams, etc. I cannot say the same for:
my 2015 RX350
my 2000 RX300
my Honda Accord
any of my Jaguars,
Nor my BMW;
nor my Cadillacs

This is weird wild stuff. I have a 2015 ES 350 with about mid-level options and I am NOT impressed with the seats. They are more sport car style than luxury as far as padding and warmth. And are also susceptible to discoloration from your own clothing. But, that's my preference and about the only compliant I have about the car. Leather can be hot in the summer and ice cold in the winter. No wonder this car comes with heated/cooled seats? I always protect my seats with a cover, anyway. As far as cleaning, I saw where Woolite mixed with water is super gentile, but effective and cheap. Look for that on YouTube and judge for yourself. And as far as leather vs. cloth, unless the leather has a texture of pudding, I'll take an early 70s Caddy or Lincoln, etc. cloth, over-padded, grandparents-looking seat any day of the week.
