Hi-

Are there any issues with daily driving in ECO mode to save fuel? Just wondering if there are any negatives....

I've been driving my 350 in ECO mode since I got it about 6 months ago. Recently, I stopped by the dealer and was talking to my salesperson. Very knowledgeable and forthright. He suggested driving in "normal" mode for more performance and that the gas savings in ECO mode were negligible. I took his word and now drive in "normal" mode. I can't say, honestly, that I notice any difference.

I have almost 4,500 miles on my ES300h and I drive in ECO mode almost all the time, no issues so far.

The only negative with ECO mode that we have found is acceleration such as when getting on the interstate or passing on two lane highway. As a result, we always switch to Normal mode for interstate or highway driving. Otherwise ECO mode around town.

Got mine in February and have over 11,000 miles. I drive exclusively in eco mode. If I anticipate passing or pulling out in heavy traffic soon enough, I'll switch it to normal or sport mode to pass, then switch it back. But most of the time it stays in eco and I'll just floor it to get the job done. I've compared gas mileage on both normal and eco. I still get better on eco. At the time of my experimentation, it was about 2 miles per gallon better. I usually always break 40mpg per tank in eco, but can't do that in normal. Eco keeps me from doing jack rabbit starts. Plus it's easier to stay in ev mode longer since the throttle is not as sensitive.

The mode selector basically will increase or decrease the amount of throttle you need to apply to achieve a specific amount of power from the engine. For example, if you needed to depress the throttle 3" to achieve 3000 rpm in ECO mode, you might only need to depress it 2" in NORMAL mode and 1" in SPORT mode. These number are made up for illustration purposes only - I did not measure the travel on the gas pedal.

So basically 3000 RPM in ECO mode delivers the same amount of power as 3000 RPM in SPORT mode.

My wife hates driving in the ECO mode thing. She does not like the throttle response. She drives in Normal. I won't let her drive in "Sport".

Sport mode in either ES is rather fun, but you'll need to control yourself in the hybrid if you want the higher FE.

Another thing to consider, especially now in the middle of summer, is that ECO mode limits compressor and fan performance.

I've read the same about the ECO mode limiting the AC and fan, but I haven't noticed any reduction in AC performance, but I do set the fan manually. We've been getting 90+ temp here.

I drive in ECO mode 95% of the time. Never NORMAL but use SPORT when significant acelleration is needed or on curvy roads when tightened steering is desired.
