Here in CA these cars are going for 1000-1500 below invoice. Email as many Lexus Internet Managers as you can to get quotes. Working only with these folks and being firm usually results in a good price. Good luck!

After reading the thread very thoroughly, it seems I should shoot for 4K off the asking price. So here are my questions.....
"Should we negotiate sales price or out the door price? I'm looking at a 13' ES350 with lux/nav that's selling for 44K........So my first offer should be 40K price or 43K OTD???....
Also, when should I mention I'm trading in?

I personally negotiate on sales price. The OTD will be what it will be, just have a good understanding of what goes into that.
I would agree upon a price then have them look at your trade. I would shop around for some ideas what the trade is worth, try and find some real life listings of similar cars on dealer lots too.

As far as your trade in goes, check KBB and Black Book for trade in values. You should not expect more than this, unless you have something rare and in demand.
You should have a number set in your head you're willing to pay, which takes both your trade and the new car into consideration. It's better to know this before going in, than to sit there and debate it with yourself in the showroom. If you're not close, walk away. That said, I would probably expect between 8 to 10% off MSRP and actual Black Book for your trade. If you were in CA, you could probably do better than the 10%. They seem to have too many dealers competing with each other.

Sales tax is his area is 7%
Assume fees is 1%
At 11%, it's $42,450 OTD. At 13%, its $41,500 OTD., at 9% its $43,400.
If u email a few dealerships in area with the $41,500, few would respond. Email them with a solid number like $42,000 OTD and that will give them some wiggle room. I predict that for such a lexus, it will be around $43,500 OTD.
Since it is almost end of the month, now is best time to get the car. If you're afraid that $42,000 OTD is too low for them, say $42,500 OTD. Say that that number is your target price and that if that can be met, u'll buy.

Have you looked at edmunds?

From what I read in the pricing thread, had I to do it over, I would have used the costco program.

jharrell, your potential difficulty in negotiation will be the lack of competition. There are few Lexus dealers in MS. Unless the local dealer has an overabundance of inventory, you should be prepared to go out of state to get the car, or at least get prices from out of state dealers and convince the local dealer that you are willing to go out of state. Check where the cheapest flights are as there will be multiple Lexus dealers in Dallas, Atlanta, maybe Birmingham, etc.
Also you should look into Costco, AAA and other buying programs as well.
