As far as the CL550 comment that doesn't offend me. Congrats to those people who purchase 5 year old 100k cars! Fortunately I’m not one.
Roger, like you I've had a lot of highend cars. Bought a "new" CL550. Also a "new" SL550 and a "new" CLS63 AMG with the performance package. Compared to my "new" Aston Martin Vantage they all had cheap looking interiors. I remember a member on the Mercedes site commenting how cheap the interior on the CL550 was compared to his CL65 AMG. In particular he really thought it was terrible that the CL550 headliner was made of a super cheap fabric. Thought it was unforgivable for a car costing over $100k. Until the guy brought it up I never really noticed how cheap the headliner looked. I've had a lot of fun over the years owning high $$$ cars. I now look for reliability and quality along with excellent design. The new ES350 is a excellent choice. I once also owned a new LS400, it was a better car then all the Mercedes I've ever owned. JMHO

I said it before and I'll say it again....dollar for dollar...the ES350 comes out on top. I got rid of an Audi A4, similar price point, after 10 months, in my opinion it was junk. Had I bought an A6 or A7 with quattro, and paid $60-70K it may have been a different story. As for BMW or Mercedes in my experience...nice luxury, but mechanical nightmares and super expensive to maintain as was the Audi. I do buy American where it makes sense. I own a Jeep GC that I love and you could not pry it away from my wife, but a Buick,?? IMO, is just plain Cheesy. It definatly appeals to an older generation and I'm 72. Sorry but each to their own. Say what you will, Lexus has done well with the ES series.

Honestly the clock looks cheap.
Once you really sit back and look at the interior you will find more.

I don't want change your views on your vehicle. The ES is a nice vehicle but it’s not luxury anymore. It’s one maybe a half step up from a v6 accord.
I recently bough at 2013 ES300h w/ leather package (in Dec 2013) to replace my 2011 Accord EX-L V6 also w/ leather package, which was damaged beyond economical repair in an accident. (Side note, I T-boned a Corolla at about 30 mph and barely felt a thing, the Accord was fantastic for that!) The difference between the two cars couldn't be more pronounced, the quitness, built quality, detailing, fell.......it was well worth the almost $15K (Canadian) more we paid for the Lexus.

I also test drove the comparable lower BMW/Merc/Audi and they don't compare for value and what you get at this price point at all. The ES is also the quitest car with respect to road noise of the whole bunch (for my ears anyway)!!!!

+1 for ES
