Default Gas mileage getting better

My ES 350 is now getting 32 mpg after 10 months. It was only about 24 when it was new. I am totally amazed that a car with so much power can be this fuel efficient.

Whew! I'm amazed. I have never gotten over 24 MPG and I'm not an aggressive driver. Maybe I should check my calculations. Vehicle is a year old...

I am constantly getting 30 mpg (after last refueling reading) of 85% highway 15% city driving. And I am only finishing a third tank of gas. I drive normally mostly using eco mode setting. I love this car.

My situation sounds pretty similar to yours. With my ES350, which I've had for about 7 months, my driving is mostly out on country roads, and my mpg during the summer and fall was consistently in the 32-34 mpg range. Mostly, I have also used the ECO mode, and my driving style is fairly conservative. As our temperatures have dropped with winter and with quite a few days where low temperatures have been below 0, mpg has dropped to around 30 mpg, but I expect that, when warmer weather returns in a few months, my mpg will go back up to where it was last summer and fall. Note that I do actual mpg calculations by dividing miles driven by gallons of gas at each fill-up. Generally, I've found that what the vehicle's computer says is within about one mpg of the actual mpg.

Try keeping the RPM below 2k when taking off and it's pretty easy to keep the MPG high.

I am lucky if i ever even hit 23mpg. I constantly get around 21-22mpg mostly city but some highway. I also don't drive it slow but I also don't redline it every time either. I'd say decently aggressive but it still should be getting better MPG's then it does. My 4.2L V8 audi gets 18-19mpg in similar conditions so for a V6 on this smaller car I'm very disappointed

The EPA estimate for the ES350 is 24 combined so your not too far off from that estimate. Driving style & traffic conditions could account for a good portion, if not all, of the difference.

You say you don't redline it every time, so then every other time? Actually, 22mpg seems fair for decently aggressive driving. If you recently just got your ES 350, the holiday season comes with more traffic which means more stop and go which kills mileage on any vehicle. I'm averaging a little over 25mpg driving moderately, but unlike you, mostly highway (60% of the time)

Also, another thing to consider is that the ES 350 with its 3.5L V6 does 0-60 in about 6s (motor trend and http://www.zeroto60times.com/Lexus-0-60-mph-Times.html) which actually beats the 2005 A8's 4.2L V8 by a few ticks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A8#Engines)

With more and more news on Toyota's introduction of direct injected engines, it will be interesting to see how much more efficiency they can eke out of their systems.

Winter blend gas has a negative effect on gas mileage. Something to consider.

I wonder if/when the ES350 will get direct injection. I suppose it keeps a distance from the GS and IS in that respect. The ES350 is rated a little higher in fuel efficiency vs. the IS and GS but those engines produce more hp and torque.

Just filled up for the first time and hit this number.

Being brand new and in the break in period, I use a different driving mode eco, normal and sport on each trip.

340 miles so far
