My first tank of gas, I mostly drove Eco while experimenting with normal and sport modes rarely. I just refilled when the fuel indicator lit up, and I had driven 564 miles and filled it up to full with 13.98Gallons of premium fuel. I suppose that averages out to just over 40 MPG. I hope to do better as I get used to driving a hybrid...any tips to improve mileage are welcome.

I take a different approach. Before buying a ES300h, I had a IS350. So I was used to more power, better brakes. I've had the ES for over a year and a half now and really haven't changed my driving style. Though I have gone from 21MPG to 34MGP. Not as good as some of you folks, but I'm having fun and not concerned about gas mileage. But then again I work from home and only use it once a week. Anyways, just my two cents...

Normal Mode -- best for moving away from a standing stop. Takes advantage of traction motors working with ICE. Results in smoother get-aways (and probably better mileage).
ECO Mode -- best for straightaway driving.
Sport Mode -- best for hill climbing and merging into traffic, but with a mileage penalty.
My average currently (3,000+ miles) is 44.1 mpg
