Default Audio / Stereo question

Hey guys, need a little help with this... this past weekend I picked up a 32 gig flash drive.. my intent was to load it up with a lot of music, thinking it would be a lot more convenient that switching out c.d.'s while on road trips... so last night I dumped about 40 songs onto the flash drive.. tonight I plugged the drive into the port in my ES... went to media / usb port and got a message saying there were no music files on the drive... I double checked it tonight... the song's ARE there.. I played a few from the drive on my home computer... I'm wondering if they're the wrong format.. the songs are MPEG-4 AUDIO. What am I doing wrong... thanks for your help with this.

MP4/AAC encoded songs don't seem to work on my base model, even songs I encoded myself with iTunes from a CD rip. MP3 at 320 kbps and WAV files play fine.

^^ Yes, they need to be MP3, or I believe WAV files. I use MP3's ripped at 256k and they work great.

Yep, I also use MP3 ripped from my laptop. Somewhere in the manual it explains the folder structure you should use.

Thanks guys... appreciate the help.... the files that wouldn't play were in fact mpeg 4 audio files... so i deleted them all off the flash drive... this time when I imported the music from my c.d.s into I-tunes, I changed the import setting to MP3... Then copied and pasted the songs onto the flash drive... they played great.. Someone mentioned folder structure.. not sure about that... I just created folders in the flash drive and named each folder what ever the name of the group was... is there a specific folder structure I should be using?
