Garage door ding protection.

Garage door ding protection.
As the title states, I have two cars in my garage and I am in need of some protection on the drivers side as I back my 350 in. I am not worried about my wife dinging the door. Its my hyper 7 year old that I am worried about. My wife knows how picky I am and she tries to be careful but as she and my son say, "dad, its just a car"! grrrrrrrr
Looking for something that would cover the driver mirror as well. Have yet to find anything that would seem to work. A thick car cover probably wouldn't work. Thanks. Something also inexpensive as well. Right now I am using full length bath towels and they fall off half the time!

I would just have the seven year old exit the car before entering the garage and not enter the car until it is safely out of the garage. Wife will have to remain in the car but as you stated the problem is the 7-year old and really nothing else will work. I have used pieces similar to what was suggested with good results and no scratches but they are kind of a pain to put on all the time - and the one time you don't it will happen.

Yes that is what we do, but when its raining/snowing/cold, that is not plausible. My wife is careful but I would like one extra layer of protection.

It IS plausible unless torrential rain, until he becomes responsible enough to exit the car with care and respect for the other car.
What do you do in public parking lots? Needs to learn how to respect other's property. It's not just a car, but an expense.

Two car garage? Open both doors, let the passengers out before you enter and have them run for the open garage door if raining or snowing. Everybody out before the car goes in at my house = no chance of damage from child or wife...

Swimming-pool "noodles" -- Long round foam extrusions, usually with a hollow core, can be used as bumpers. See, https://www.google.com/search?q=swimming+noodles for examples. If you get one with a big-enough hollow center, you can push a piece of pvc pipe through the middle for support, and hang it from the ceiling between the cars. I have friends who use these things as boat bumpers -- they work well and are far less expensive than anything you can buy at a boat store.

Halfmoon, typical single doors are 9' wide like you have, but a double garage door is typically 16' wide. The OP may have one 16' door. We have a three car garage with one single and one double door (with a pedestrian door in between). Doing over I would have had 3 single doors. Naturally the wife gets the single door, and when I had a Yukon and 74 Merc 450SL it was tight. I would back the Merc in getting as close to the outside wall as possible.

My builder fought with me over the width of my 2 car garage. He insisted on making it 29' wide with two 9' single doors. I've got enough room to open the doors on both vehicles and not have them impact each other. Every part of the house I laid out in CAD became bigger in key areas, more windows, bigger deck. Not at all lavish but experienced builders know what works and I'm glad I listened to him now!
