Personally I think the transponders mounted to the license plate (which are not available in all states and remember, many states don't have front plates and I don't run front plates even though my state requires them) are ugly. I've always run interior mounted transponders and have had no problems. Those external transponders were available when this thread was originally being posted in.
Whats "asinine" is an insinuation that your chosen way of doing something is the only acceptable way of doing it. The VAST majority of toll pass users mount them inside the vehicle.
