Default Anyone Heard of a "New" 2014 Car?

I'm looking to buy a ES350 and a local dealer is selling a 2014 as "New". They say it has never been titled, leased or sold before and was driven through the lot and used for test drives. It has very low miles and is priced a big higher than used 2014's but much less than a new 2016. The low miles, reasonable price and full warranty are attractive, but seems a bit odd that they would keep a car on the lot for 2 years and thus have to sell it for a lot less than what they could have sold it for a back when the 2015s came out. Perhaps I am just being paranoia and this is standard practice for a dealer. Just trying to see if this is a good opportunity to buy a discounted "new" car or a potential concern. Any thoughts? Thanks

I'd be careful, I remember when I worked at Audi there was an a6 like that. Sure it had low miles but they were very hard miles. Otherwise it does sound like a good deal if you want a new 2014.

Sounds like it could have been a loaner car for service customers. I don't see the dealer giving it to potential customers looking for a 2015 or 16 to take for a test drive...

Chances are they're going to continue having trouble selling a car two years old, use that to your advantage. Check what the KBB value is with the miles it has and offer that. They might give you BS that's the value of a used car but technically it's not new even if it's never been titled just means it never had an owner on record.

Also make sure you negotiate a brake flush and oil change before you sign the papers if you do buy it.
Brake fluid absorb moisture and lowers the boiling point. And engin oil brakes down over time regardless of light use and with oil changes about once a year, your oil would be in the car for about 3 years before your first service.

Check for tire cracking or sidewall damage which might be a safety issues regardless of excellent treadwear
Check the belt, it should be fine but any sign of cracking have them replace it.
Engine coolant is lifetime which means 100miles/5years. Car been sitting for at least 2years if not more of it was produced in 2013 as a 14 model.

Avoid it. Already 2 years depreciation. If it has been sitting on the lot for extended periods without being driven, it may have a number of issues.

For all you know some lot jockey may have done some damage to it accidentally and it has been in the shop for months getting repaired. May explain why it has been attracting dust and not buying customers. Either that or your dealer got it from some other dealer that could just not sell the darn thing.

Keep in mind the car will always be a 2014 model for both insurance purposes and resale. I can't quite imagine any good reason for the car not being sold and would avoid it unless you get it for maybe a 2013 price. You have verified that the car will have the standard Lexus new car warranty of 48 mos. or 50K miles?

I've seen this from time to time. I wouldn't do it unless it was priced similarly to a used 2014.
