Default Newbie here... LOVE my Lexus! Question...

Just picked up my '16 ES350 yesterday, and I almost slept in it last night! The car is absolutely gorgeous and everything I hoped it would be! It came from the factory with body side moldings. Personally, I think they are too old school for this beautiful car, so I'm thinking of having them removed. Also, planning on having all of the windows except the windshield tinted 20%. Just looking for opinions please... Is 20% too dark on a white car with light interior or no? And those side moldings... ? Thank you!

Happy Lexus girl here!

Congratulations and welcome to Club Lexus! I am not a fan of side moldings and believe they are simply taped on so can be carefully removed with a good hair dryer just like most emblems. However, if you get a door ding that could have been prevented by the moldings you may regret removing them. I do not have tint on mine as at my age I need all the light I can get when driving at night.

Congratulations and welcome. I don't like and don't have side moldings but they do work. Depends on where you have to park I guess. And I never get tint.

Thank you, Jollick! I agree about the moldings, and the window tint is probably as much for aesthetics as anything for me.

Thank you, Dave! I think I will remove the moldings for sure. Is there a reason not to get tint, in your opinion?

Congrats on car! Looks bold. Great rims too.

It's your ride, if you don't like the side moldings, I'd cut them too.

I'm still a young guy but drive a lot at night...20% is too dark for me for vision, and for the lack of Michigan heat (unsure their laws), but again, it's your ride. Enjoy!

Congrats! I actually like the look of the door bumpers. Here's a pic of my ES with 20% ceramic panaflex tint. I don't think it would be too dark on white.

Welcome to CL and GOOD LUCK with the new car. Breathe deep and take in the new car smell... I bought my car w/o body side moldings and then put them on. IMO it looks better. But then that's why they make chocolate and vanilla... I also added a 25% tint as my car is Satin Cashmere.

You'll have questions so come back often and the smart people on here will answer them for you.

What is the legal % tint in Michigan? You might consider that if getting tint.

Thank you for the reminder BC... Yep, need to slow down and smell the new car .

Yes, tinting is legal in Michigan to 35% unless you have a doctor's note .

I'm a doctor. And I am giving you permission to go lower than 35%
At 35% its not worth getting tints. I completely understand its not for everyone, but at the legal limit it is not worthwhile for the money that you are spending. But I'm not saying to go with 5% limo tints either, since that would impair your night time visibility. But from what I understand of our state laws, it's a secondary offense (or tack-on ticket), meaning they usually do not pull you over just for the tints. Will usually add on top of a speeding ticket etc.

Sincerely, Jiggyman M.D

that body side moldings actually cause the door to look a lot smaller than it actually is... i agree on the old school but that door will look huge without them... i had a DSM and a NG 2013 ES350... both with body side moldings, and they actually caused the car to look sleeker... some people actually thought it was an LS... on the tint... if 35% is legal, then 35% it is, unless YDGAD, then go for the 20. nice choice BTW... actually the only mod i would do is the wheels... tint is hit or miss with me, i don't mind fishbowling...

Congratulations on your new ride!
I would disagree on side moldings. IMO they are not just protecting your doors but adding some style in cars look.
I have them ordered on my car and now thinking about getting those door wind deflectors.
What you guys think?
