Weak point on our cars - the water pump
Pretty much the only weak point on this car is the water pump, which in previous generations has failed well before 100k miles. I keep my cars to 200k miles, and am now approaching 45k miles on my 2013 ES350. The warranty expires at 50k -what have others done or asked the dealership to do to "inspect" the water pump, seals etc? I want them to specifically check for things since it's a weak spot.

Have not heard of any issues with the water pump on the 6th gen ES.

If you should price one, there is a guy in the mid-west who has been EXTREMELY competitive in pricing for forum members.
I never had a water pump problem.
But, these days I take out the extended warranties on both the car and Wheel&tires.
The car warranties have had mixed value, my kids Santafe's they have proven valuable.
The Lexus's not as much. My '10ES just had a window motor replaced under the extended warranty. We just traded the car and I turned the warranty in for a balance refund.
The wheel&tire coverage has more than paid for itself.:
'10ES 6 wheels refinished for curb rash
'10 IS-F 4 hi-performance tires at $480@
'13 Ford Focus (my son's) ST - one wheel and tire $1500
We just took out a '16 ES350 and I took a 10yr CarGuard warranty on it, I think it cost $1500 and appeared to be a bargain, along with the Wheel and tire coverage.

It seems like most of the water pump problems are model year 2007's and effect them at 100k miles and higher. I would think Toyota/Lexus would have made improvements since then. If it still is an issue, the current gen 2013's and newer probably aren't hitting those miles yet.

At my time at the dealership I've replaced few water pumps on Toyota models however I wouldn't consider that a weak point. An alternator or head gasket probably has a better chance going bad and even still that's rare. There's really no way of telling it's going bad unless it's noisy (loud rattle) or leaking coolant. Also there's no preventive maintenances on a water pump. If it makes you feel better get a coolant flush done at 100k miles
