a). Does your ES have the navigation system package? Evidently, the remote start is a part of the navigation package, and a 2016 ES without the navigation package does not have remote start capability.

b). Have you registered/activated your Enform system? Without an active Enform subscription, you cannot use remote start with either the smart phone app or even with the key fob (for a 2016 ES).

Looks like Enform Remote comes as a standard feature with these cars. And assuming they all get the free 1 year trial subscription,

it should work if all you need is that tie in. I suppose some dealers, in a hurry to move the car, may forget to set you up with an initial subscription.

When you are trying to start the car remotely with the key fob, how far are you from the car? The range of the system is only, at best, around 100 feet, and, if there are obstructions, it can be much less.

When you say that the "app works fine", does that mean that you can start the car with the app from your smart phone? Note that the basic Enform App Suite works with or without a paid subscription. What you need to have a paid subscription for is things like the remote start, the safety connect, and live destination concierge. So, if the basic apps work but you cannot start the car with cell phone app, it could well be the case that the dealer hasn't done what it needs to have done on its end to activate the free trial period for what would otherwise be the paid portion of the Enform subscription.

Maybe you have to be actually in the car.

It sounds like its time to ask the dealer why it isn't working.

FWIW, I can always get the app to work to start my GS, but I am not always successful in using the fob to do it. I just use the app now, and don't bother with using the fob.

I just tried this from my desk at work. I'm on the second floor and my car, hard to see, is circled in red...
Enform showed that status correctly and I was able to stop the engine with both my fob and Enform.
