In my opinion using BT to make and take phone calls is unquestionably the safest way. Using the steering wheel controls allows the driver to maintain control of his/her vehicle w/o distraction. This way instead of blocking vents, clocks, windscreen, and cup holders. More importantly no driver distraction. Sound from Google maps or built in nav system can be used for driving directions....

I've come across one that works well. My wife got it for her car but it wasn't quite right...but looked great for me! Gave it a shot and I really like it.

Amazon Amazon

Still allows side/side vent adjustment & shutoff, fairly unobstructed flow too. The face is magnetic, so you just slip the supplied thin metal plate in the back of your case or stick it to your phone.

And it clears the recessed vents! That's always been the prob....

The Nite Ize Steelie Vent Mount Kit from Amazon works great.
I didn't want a windshield mount or to stick anything on the dash.
This vent mount is the finest I have every seen.
The only caveat is that you must stick a small circular magnet to the back of the phone.
If you can live with that, then this system will suit your needs.

Hello jrbecker,

Firstly, Thank you for this. I recently purhcased a 14' ES. Due to the recessed center vents, my older vent mounts did not work. I resorted to putting the vent mount on the left hand side vent on the other side of the steering wheel....not an ideal solution....not left handed. I just didn't like it.

Secondly, I purhcased a modified version of the one you have shown. I can confirm this works with some slight procedural things to watch out for.
Mainly being..make sure to clamp the mount such that it is NOT all the way seated into the vent....make sure to have it about 75% of the way in
The link to the specific vent I purhcased is below. It has the same base as the one in the picutre. The only difference is that the ball has another attachment that makes it into a flat magnetic surface. From there, it attaches to your phone with a magnet that you can stick on the outside of your case, or just wedge between your case and your phone.
***NOTE, I personally did not use the provided circular magnet that came in the box. I had another rectangular magnet that coveres about 90% of the width of my phone (iPhone 14 pro). I like this magnet because it affords a greater magnetic surface area to latch on to. This magnet came in another vent mount that I purchased a while back.
Lastly, I have installed the vent phone holder....pending rigorous testing...will keep informed if anything goes wrong with the stlightly modified setup I have.

Cheers all

I find this one works well, doesn't block the windshiled or the screen.

My solution is the mophie snap+ with the wire routed behind the dash and popping out by the steering wheel, plugging into a USB port I added
