Default Lexus built in India

Just read an article in the news that Lexus vehicles will now be built in India. According to the article, the models to be built there will be the LS line and the hybrid ES300h. No mention of the ES350.

I believe that article is speculation, see this article. https://lexusenthusiast.com/2016/09/...ring-in-india/

I would imagine it would be for units sold in India itself, not for export here.

I would guess this as well, considering India has 100% taxes on imports. Furthermore, vehicles manufactured in India must contain a certain percentage of Indian made parts, otherwise they face the taxes as well. Because of these laws, most manufacturers that sell vehicles in the country establish factories to be as competitive as possible. Some of those vehicles may find their way to some bordering nations, but we likely won't see those vehicles exported to North America.
