Hasman69, I have the Pirellis, and they are good. With that price difference, its a no-brainer to go with the Pirellis.

I will be upgrading to a new set of 18” (UL) wheels + tires this week..

if anyone is interested in my 17” wheels (in excellent condition) + Mastercraft SRT Touring (rated for 60k miles) recently purchased (I have the receipt). It’s a very quiet tire (made by Cooper). OEM wheel locks and TPMS will be included.

reply or message me if interested, I’m located in CT.

You sure about this move? Everyone keeps telling me the 17inch wheels are the way to go for a comfortable ride, that the 18inch wheels are way harsher.

The 18's are not at all harsh, if inflated properly. People's opinions vary on every subject. You should see for yourself which you prefer.

Going to the 18s WILL harden the ride though. My buddy has a 16 ES which I drive every once and a while on 18s, and I agree the ride isnt "harsh"

I agree... I've posted this before but for this threads sake I'll post it again... when I was shopping for my es, I test drove one with 17" rims with Michelin tires... I actually ended up buying one off the showroom.. didn't test drive it... it came with 18" wheels and was equipped with Bridgestone Turanza tires.... 15 minutes after I picked the car up and was headed home I thought, " what the hell is wrong with this car ".. while the ride wasn't terrible, there was a noticieable difference in the ride.... I had a set of bridgestone turanza's on another car I owned and they rode rough as well... solution was to change tires ( I went with the pirelli's and so far so good ).. also keep an eye on tire pressure.. when I brought my car home from the dealership the air pressure was over 40 lbs in each tire... I dropped all four to around 31 to 32 lbs and that, coupled with the pirelli tires made all the difference..

I plan on eventually going to 18's, but will upsize the tire to get the same ride. The ES350 has enough gap to avoid rubbing, and I can adjust my speedometer if needed.

I have been told you can do it with Techstream, but I have not attempted it yet. If I only go up 1 size tire I should be ok anyway.

How often are you guys getting alignments and new tires? Wife's 2014 ES300h with 73k miles has never had an alignment done. Tires haven't really been wearing out prematurely from what we can tell, but I think she's just getting new tires way too early.

- May 2014: Car purchased with new tires.
- [Can't remember date] 28k miles in and she purchased first replacement set due to normal wear and tear.
- July 2016: Purchased 2nd set due to normal wear and tear.
- Dec 2018: Purchased 3rd and current set.

We weren't together until mid 2016, so I was unaware of any work she did to the car before that, so since 2016, she's gotten 2 sets of new tires. Completely OEM car with no mods.

You *really* should get an alignment done, unless you have never driven through a pothole (haha, not likely).

I recommend getting a 3-year (or similar alignment package) from somewhere, like Just Tires. That is what I have for all vehicles in the fleet. I take each one in once a year for its alignment. I even took one in after a trip, on which I hit a dip so bad, the suspension bottomed-out with a big thud...I figured, why not get it aligned after that!

Keeping it aligned, along with proper inflation, will lengthen the life of your tires.

.
My '14 ES350 had its first alignment last year at 62k miles after the original Michelin tires were replaced. The alignment report said the toe was off slightly but it drove the same afterward. The tire wear was good for the way I drive and they were rotated every 5k miles.

I noticed that almost everyone here either goes with the Michelins or the Pirellis. Anyone had any success with a cheaper tire?

You’ll get lots of opinions with that question.

You get get what you pay for. If you’re into some analysis, go to tirerack.com and navigate through the reviews/ratings.

An example here:

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/surve....jsp?type=GTAS

As to alignment my tire shop where I get my winter/summer tires swapped will do an alignment check for free. Sometimes it’s ok, sometimes it needs an alignment.

To me, your tires are the only thing on your car that connects it to the road. I wouldn’t skimp there.
