OP here, I would like to give an update on my American built 2017 ES350 after owning it for almost 4 years. The car has been running flawlessly with ~27K mile (so on the low mileage side partly due to Covid19). No noises, no rattles, no oil/water leaks, one minor tear in the leather (front passenger seat) which didn't get worse in the last couple years, no mechanical/electrical issues, just require regular scheduled maintenance. The engine starts immediately every time and runs as smoothly as the day it came home new. Wonderful car. It will be hard for me to not buy Lexus again.

Update on my Japanese built 2013. I required the sunroof replacement, which was installed just before my original warranty expired ...=:-0
Other than that, everything else is perfect at ~42K miles.

What was wrong with the sunroof?

Guides on some cables were faulty and things began to rattle right over your head. It was in many Lexus models from 2013-2016-ish.
When I brought mine in, it took weeks for the dealer to get replacement parts. But it got fixed and everything has been fine since.

Did the dealer try to replace just the sunroof seal? It fixed the rattle problem on my 2014 ES300h. Just $50 and ~1 hour of labor. This is the only repair I had to do over 120k miles.

No, it was mechanical problems in the sunroof unit itself. An assembly-time error that resulted in rattles.

From what I read all of the 2013-2016 owners who just replaced the seal reported the rattles gone and no other issues.

Ya, could be, but when the car was still under warranty and I took it in, the dealer decided for the high cost option of replacing the entire sun roof unit rather than simply replacing the seal.

I figured there were two main reasons for that. 1) The dealer got Lexus to pay for an expensive repair, and 2) the dealer also knew I wouldn't be bringing the car back to complain about the work!

Now, if I'd been paying for it, that seal would'a been replaced so fast...
