Default Lexus mechanic takes my car to pick up lunch....

My car was in for service at a Lexus dealership and I have a dash camera and decided to watch the video. Turns out, two mechanics took my car to go pick up lunch. Got all of their conversations and was especially interesting when the passenger asked "what are you doing to this piece of ****". How would you handle this? Would you call Lexus service manager to notify them or let it go?

That is all wrong. I'd bring it up with both the service manager and dealership manager. Let them see and hear the video.

Most of them mechanics at dealership or body shop do this under the name of road test. Unless they messed up the car interior or logged excessive mileage on the clock ignore it for the first time. If they repeat it raise an issue with management. Or if you don't want to go back there do whatever you want. Next time they can sabotage your car. Myself, from now and then I buy lunch or treats for my favorite sales guy, mechanics, service writer acknowledging my appreciation..
It is a world of give and take.

Some repairs require a road test. while the video might show some unflattering conversation about your car I don't think its worth the hassel. I mean we all are human and sometimes say inappropriate things amongst our friends or family.

Would I say something? Yes, just because its unprofessional and makes the techs look like asses. It will point out that its not their vehicle and they may be being recorded (they made a mistake assuming otherwise). Would I bring my car back? Yes, it was not grievous.

Depends on if you plan on taking your car back. What they say about your car is different than any actions they did to abuse it. They can talk all the crap they want, I wouldn't care. But...if they were abusing it, then we have a problem.

i wouldn't take it personally. it was just locker room talk. as long as they didn't abuse your car who cares what they said in a private conversation that you probably shouldn't be recording - there's an expectation of privacy issue here. and you can't be the thought police. let it go IMO.

We thought their comment was more funny than anything, didn't take any offense. This was definitely not a road test. They worked on the car from 7:30 to a little after 9am. The car was then moved to the parking lot behind the dealership until 12:47, when they took it to lunch and then returned. The car wasn't started again until when they brought the car to me for pick up.

Same here.
I would let it go unless they
- put a lot of miles
- made a mess
- broke or stole something

Other than the video was there any other evidence that they took your car for a drive? If not then I'd let it go. There is too much of a down side to reporting it as others have suggested. Next time when you go in for service you might mention in an offhand way that you have a video camera that's working great. Maybe the message will get across without offending anyone or causing unintended consquences.

Probably going to need a lawyer if you say you recorded them without their consent. I would be careful how I handled this.
