Default Non es question

For those that have "new" SUVs.. especially 5 passenger ones, (not 3rd row seating), what do u all have? prefer "non" stiff" suspension.. .. Thought I even liked the Audi SQ 5 till i looked further, now not so sure..

We have an NX. We downgraded/downsized from an RX about a year ago. Many of the features and attributes we like about the ES are also present in the NX or RX. The NX isn't as quiet and doesn't have as smooth a ride as we were used to with either the RX or the ES, but still a nice vehicle overall - however really just a 4 passenger SUV. Based on my experience with Toyotas and Lexus vehicles, I would say the NX is probably closer to its RAV4 base than any other Lexus is to the base model its derived from (in those cases it has a match in the Toyota brand). That isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just doesn't have the usual Lexus levels of sound deadening and refinement.

The challenge with your question is that you may need to define what YOU are looking for. There is such a huge range of SUVs available today. Are you looking for compact, midsize, large, sporty, luxurious, and so forth. Just about every brand out there has some nice SUVs. I have been intrigued with some of the Mazda models as they are really sharp. I prefer a smooth quiet ride over a sporty (stiff) ride. But then I don't do a lot of mountain driving, and I'm not towing anything, plus it would be just my wife and myself so we don't need a great deal of cargo space.

I've had a 2017 NX200t loaner for 3 days, and minus what feels like turbo lag when acceleration through a turn, it's pretty good, especially compared to the vehicles in its class. In general I just think it's hard to make a short wheelbase SUV to ride super well. Other suggestions would be the Mazda suvs and like you mentioned the Audi. The Mercedes not a huge fan of the styling and the BMW you need to pay a fortune to get the options you want. Volvo might be worth checking out as well. For a non-stiff suspension, it's hard as everyone is trying to make their vehicle "sporty"

Thanks for the opinions..Im just not sure...The 3 rows I dont need, but a more comfy ride due to the wheelbase being longer. plus more cargo space if needed...

The wife drives a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee which rides surprisingly smooth and quiet (for a SUV). We have had it for 10 years and often drive it when visiting relatives who live out in the boonies on low maintenance dirt roads. Another Jeep GC is the top candidate when we replace the '06. I would suggest you test drive various SUVs as much as possible before deciding.

Drove a Subaru 3.6R today and was pretty impressed. Similar hp as 350, same features (at least the important ones) as 350 + Eyesight and AWD. Good response and ride. Eyesight technology is pretty amazing. A test drive is hardly a full "evaluation" but thought it may help based on your question.

I would also recommend you look at a Grand Cherokee. Very nice ridIng quiet vehicles, I had two, a 2011 and a 2014.

I've had a 4Runner, an RX, and now a Highlander and have loved them all. My sister has a newer Murano and loves it, though the styling isn't quite for me, but she's been very happy with it for a couple years. My other sister also has a Highlander (she's on her second as she loved her first) and my folks have a RAV4 that I am always impressed with.

If you want something small, I'd take a look at the new Mazda CX-5.

Test drove a Volvo XC90 on a whim today, it rode remarkably well on the air suspension, very quiet too. This model even had the huge 21" wheels and I still thought the ride was very good. Worth looking at for sure.

The new Volvo is great, the sedan too, but be ready to drop close to LX570 money if you want a fully loaded one

I could have sworn the one I saw was $80k, nice SUV regardless and really not all that weird considering a new loaded Ford Fusion stickers for over 40k

They can be $80k absolutely totally loaded, but you don't have to buy them that way. The one I drove didn't lack anything I would want.

And the LX is considerably more than $80k lol, more like 95-100k.

How was the twin charged 4 cylinder in the XC90? It's an interesting engine and I'm curious how it feels in a large SUV.

I'm actually getting ready to respond in the Pacifica thread too.

I thought it was okay. It sounds like a 4 banger, power is great and very little lag, but it gets a little buzzy...I would absolutely love the vehicle with a V6...buying it to keep for a long time with that engine as hard as it works would concern me too...
