Default Do I have defective dash lights?

Hello Peeps!

Brand new ES 350 UL owner here.

The lights on the outer two columns (fuel gauge and engine temp) are noticeably brighter than my inner two gauges (tach and speed).

Is this normal?

My last IS had uniform lighting all the way across the cluster.

That's not good to hear - I think they should be uniform. And the repair may be more invasive than I would like on a new car. Good luck though, take it in and maybe they can handle it without too much going into your dash panel assembly.

I just checked mine with the car inside the completely dark garage.

If there is any difference between the illumination level of the speedometer and tachometer compared to that of the gas and temperature gauges, it is so slight that I don't think I would ever notice it. In fact, if I perceive any slight difference now, it might just be my imagination based on the power of suggestion after reading your post.

Just to make sure I am not hallucinating.....here is one more pic.

Can someone post a day time pic of their dash for me? Doesn't matter if its turned up or down....the outer gauges on my ES are always brighter than the inner gauges at any level.

That fuel gauge is VASTLY brighter than the Tach, no...????

Its hard to tell by that pic. I checked mine (2 month old 2017) and they look the same brightness to me.

Why don’t you go back to the dealer and have them look, and you check out another new car or cars and see what they look like?

Currently on a 7-day road trip working in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico.

Not seeing anyone posting any pics of their instrument cluster I did a quick google search and my lighting is definitely NOT normal.

I’m taking her in next week when I get back from working in NM.

IDK what to say.....I talked to my SA (long-established relationship) and the shop foreman who has been at this dealer for 20 years and they both said there isn't much difference between the gauges. We also looked at another ES and the entire instrument cluster appears a little brighter than mine but even on the other ES the cluster still has the outside gauges brighter by a slight margin.

The brightness disparity in the gauges is really bothering me. Every Lexus I have ever been in and owned has extremely bright gauges--so much that I have never had to have over 1/2 illumination. I don't like bright gauges, but I definitely like uniformity in the brightness.

Can anyone post any pics of their dash at 1/2 AND full illumination?

They told me they can take the car in for service and see what Lexus says but they told me the most likely outcome is that they are supposed to be that way.

I'm going to have the foreman call the Lexus tech line to see what they say.

.
Well I guess this just proves we are all different since I have my gauges at full illumination all the time. Everyone has different eyesight it would seem.

I drive A LOT at night on very dark sometimes unlit roads in the middle of nowhere.

I don't like dash lights at night.
