Default Warranty Done

Well sure hope my 2013 ES holds up like I think she will. As of today ( tuesday ) my 4 year manufacturer warranty is finished... In years past I would sometimes buy the extended warranty and with my experience found that they were a needless expense. My last 2 vehicles before my lexus did not have extended warranties and it never became an issue. Hoping the same holds true for my Lexi... she's only got 35K miles and I keep up with the scheduled mainitenance... we'll see.

Agree, no need to extend the warranty on a Lexus. But from now on, when you need service have it done at the closest Toyota dealer. They'll know what to do and will do it much cheaper than a Lexus dealer.

The security blanket expiring is a notable passing but one that comes for everybody. Mine came in September of 2016. So far so good... Unloading it this coming fall. 13,800 on the clock...

I use the approaching end of the factory warranty as an excuse to start looking for a new car. My wife is on to me though.

Sounds like a plan... I use "but the sale price is expiring soon"...

On my previous Lexus I have had an extended policy with money back provision.
It said that if I will have no claims within a coverage period, I will get my money back. And I did.
The cost was around $1,200.00 or so.
You may wish to explore this direction as well just to be safe

I would say you will be fine. I spent a couple thousand on an extended warranty in 2008 for my new ES 350. I now have over 200,000 miles on it and have had absolutely nothing go wrong! Money wasted. I just purchased a new 2017 ES 350 with NO extended warranty. By the way, the 08 Lexus is still in such good condition that I didn’t trade it in. Kept it for a “run around” car!

I thought of that idea... there are two toyota dealerships in my area.. one of them is owned by the same family that owns the lexus dealership.. and that toyota dealership told me flat out that they're not allowed to work on my Lexus, that I have to take it to the Lexus dealership.. The other Toyota dealership has no relationship with the lexus dealer, they told me they can't do any diagnostic work on the lexus...( think that's what they said... don't remember if they can't do diagnostics or actually to mechanical work, it was one or the other ).. but that was when my car was still under warranty.. I don't know if the car being out of warranty will have any impact on their policy.. Guess I'll find out one day.

Strange that they say they can't work on it. Just tell them it's an Avalon that you re-badged.

Yet my local Toyota dealer (where I have purchased cars and get work done on them) has no issues saying they will work on my Lexus. Have not bothered using them yet (other than buying some wiper blade refills) as will stick to Lexus dealership till warranty expires.

The Toyota dealer has no ownership connection to the Lexus dealership and is a lot closer to my house.

I guess I have just been lucky. The 2008 Es 350 (referenced in post #7 above) has NEVER been to a Lexus or Toyota dealer for any type of service. I have a local Firestone dealer that I trust and he has completed every oil change, tires, brakes, batteries, etc. that the car needed. It now has over 200k.
