Default New (to me) 2016 ES 350 - oil change intervals

I just picked up a new to me 2016 Lexus ES 350 with only 6700 miles on the odometer. It was L certified and the Carfax report does not show an oil change as of yet so I assume it has not been done.

i’m thinking in prudent to go ahead and get an oil change done immediately and I’m wondering if they will cover it in the included maintenance package as my first oil change.

also, I am a firm believer that you should always go above and beyond the factory recommended oil change intervals for optimal life expectancy of a vehicle (even if only by a little more frequent ) I did not have any time to do research on this vehicle before I bought it but I believe they recommend every 10,000 miles. In that case, I would probably do an oil change every 7500 miles or so at minimum.

I plan to keep the car till it exceeds 200,000 miles which for me will be in possibly 6 to 8 years.

What do the Lexus hive experts say on oil change intervals for a car like this? Do you also believe that it’s a good idea to start out with a fresh oil change even at under 7000 miles? Will my included maintenance program for the first two years/20,000 miles cover this if I bring it into them? Do you also believe that it’s a good idea to start out with a fresh oil change even at under 7000 miles? I don’t expect them to pay for more than two oil changes, but will they give me a hard time for bringing it in before 10,000 miles?

Congratulations! The oil change interval is every 10,000 miles. I will change it just for the heck of it. I usually change my oil after about 1000 miles on a Brand new car to get all the crud out of a new engine. Plus, Certified vehicle usually have free complementary service for the first 25, 000 mile, So check and use that.

You can use this website to gather all the info on the car: https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/

Ok, so the car fax shows it’s already had a 5000, 10,000, and 15,000 mile service all prior to being certified. Am I good on oil changes?

10k service includes an oil change. So, it was done on 10/19/17.

So it seems that somewhere between 13 miles and 2413 miles the oil and filter was changed. Also, they did the 10 and 15k service on the car even though you're at 6600 miles.
I'd say you're done for quite a while at this point. At least until next March or when you hit another 10k miles... I use the manufacturer's recommendations as a schedule thinking that they're smarter than I am regarding the maintenance schedule...

The Lexus recommended oil change service is 10,000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first. The 10,000 mile service done in October 2017 includes an oil change so you are not due until October 2018 or 15,000 on the odometer based on the carfax report.

Why would you feel the need to go above and beyond the oil change interval recommendation and do oil changed every 7500 miles? Lexus built and designed your car, they know when the oil needs to be changed. Get the oil changed every 10k miles or 12 months (whatever comes first) with fully synthetic oil like the book says. Simple as that. No reason to do anything else.

+1 - Wasteful IMO to change before 10k...

Manual states every 10,000 and that is what I am doing except for the first change. I have a 2017 ES 300H and changed mine at 5,000. Old school with theory that who knows what oil they use from the factory. I took my Mobil 1 and filter to my local Toyota dealership who charges me $20 labor. Total cost of oil change $50. Maybe not needed but piece of mind. My local Lexus Service Manager told me that if one comes in and buys oil they get Toyota synthetic made by Mobil. For oil changes they use drums to fill and use a brand that I have heard of but can not remember the brand but not a top tier. Even when I get my first two free oil changes at 10,000 and 20,000, I bring in my Mobil 1. Five quart jug at Walmart $24. Mobil running right now a $12 rebate on the five quart jug.

I've seen what happened to some BMW Engines when they 1st started those long oil change intervals.

I do 7500 mile changes. I pass on the extra 2500. It definitely is Not more harmful.

To me, if 10k is good, 7500 is Better. Just saying.

First off, congrats on your new car.. I feel sure you will get many years of good service out of it... as for the oil changes... Lexus recommends every 10K miles... but I'm kinda like you are about not waiting that long. I'm probably over the top on it, but I always have changed my oil and filter at 5K miles. Is it overkill? Probably so, but so what.. it gives me peace of mind.. and I look at it this way....changing it every 5K isn't going to hurt a thing... it can only be better for the engine.. It does cost more, but I see it as buying peace of mind.. Plus I grew up old school where you changed your conventional oil every 3K miles... just remember to use a full synthetic oil. I use Mobil 1 EP 0W-20.

Do you do the changes yourself? Only way to tell for sure is by sending in a used oil analysis. Send a 10k sample into blackstone and you'll take the guessing out of it. They'll tell you exactly what shape your engine is in and how the oil held up over 10k miles. 7500 miles may not be better if you're just throwing away perfectly good oil.

I am well aware of the Oil analysis send out kits.

There is no way 7500 miles Oil is just as good as new oil. Not saying it may not still have life. But no way its as good as Brand new oil.

I guess we'll see. If the oil isn't breaking down at 10k, it's protecting and lubricating just as well as when it was new.

This is a fairly new (to me) car and i'll be changing the oil in a few thousand miles with some mobil 1. I'll run it for 10k and send in a sample. I've never run 10k interval oil changes either, but if the book says 10k, i'll stick with it as long as the oil analysis comes back fine. I drive a lot, so should have something posted by the summer at some point.

And completely off topic, but i see you have a ecoboost mks. I just sold my 2010 mks ecoboost with around 180k miles on it before getting this ES. Fun cars, but make sure to change out that PTU fluid. It's a very weak spot with those cars. Ford/Lincoln says it's a "lifetime fluid", but it's definitely not and it really prolongs the life of them by changing the fluid every 20k miles or so.

Oil is still subject to contamination. No matter what.

Yes I have changed the MKS fluid once already. And I am about to change the ES350 Fluid in spite of Lexus claims of lifetime.

How do you feel about the ES vs The MKS?
