30K Service
I took a look at my tires the other day and realized that it was time for them to be replaced. They're original, almost 5 years old, and had 29,500 miles on them. So, having a coupon from a tire store I've used before, in it went for 4 new 215/55-17 Pirelli Cinturator P7s. $780 out the door including a 4-wheel alignment. However, the job wasn't done yet... they told me that it really needed a brake job in the next couple thousand miles, and that got me thinking about doing a ~30K service.
Looking around I found a list of recommended service items, thinking that seemed sensible, but adding the required brake job I asked my local shop to:Replace front brakes❑ Replace cabin air filter❑ Replace brake fluid❑ Replace engine air filterInspect the following:__ Axle shaft boots__Ball joints and dust covers__ Body__ Brake lines and hoses__ Engine coolant__ Exhaust pipes and mountings❑ Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis
My mechanic is a pretty sharp guy who always uses factory parts, but instead of ordering Lexus parts he called the local Toyota dealer where, after giving them the VIN of may car, obtained:
Front Rotors/Pad - $241.10, Engine air filter - 22.95, Cabin air filter- 37.19.
He then charged me $90 to do the brake job plus $89 to replace the brake fluid.
A sum total of $499.06 parts, labor, and tax.
Couldn't be happier but I am wondering how much the parts would have cost from Lexus...

29,500 miles? What kinda of tires did u have? Replace brake fluid why? New rotors..why?
Always be inquisitive.
Yardstick: 2014 Lexus ES350, 55,515 miles, 72 years young.
Original Michelin tires, will replace soon with original Michelin Primacy tires. Still have not gotten to the tread wear line.
Just replaced original front and rear brakes pads, could not stand the brake dust....Akebono ceramic, cost $100, labor $0, did myself. 30 minutes for each wheel. Brake pads are so simple. Rear brake pads did not need to be replaced but I did it anyway.
Cabin air filter $20 on ebay, 5 minutes to replace watch Utube video.
Engine air filter $20 5 minutes to replace. Watch Utube video.
Stay away from the FRANCISE!
Lexus Forever.

Every 10,000 miles an oil change and tire rotation is needed. At the Lexus dealership this should be less than $100. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed and again about $100. Every 20,000 miles change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. The cabin air filter can be bought at Walmart for $18, It is the Fram Fresh Breeze #10285 with carbon and baking soda to filter the air. Wiper blade inserts again can be bought at Lexus Parts World for $20 for both refills and takes five minutes to replace. You are done until 100,000 miles. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. If you go in and ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Once a year replace the key fob battery cr2032. Keep receipts for everything. I take my oil filter and 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $24 to my local Toyota dealer and they charge me $20 labor.

Whatever Michelin All-Season tires were OEM in 2013. As the post above says: 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed. The tire shop said they were nearly spent so, it seemed like a reasonable thing to do.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture over time which can corrode the metal components of the brake system.
It's cheap insurance to flush and replace at the recommended interval.
My son's 1999 Acura experienced total loss of the front brakes when the metal brake lines corroded to the point the system lost pressure and leaked fluid when he applied the brakes.
And yeah, he was doing 75mph in the left lane of the Interstate when it happened.
