The question remains as to why would a world class vehicle manufacturer clearly and specifically state that the transmission fluid should not be touched. Why would Toyota want to damage their reputation with faulty transmissions? I would suggest that all the non-believers should slip the service writer a 50 and insist that they change the fluid. Then pay the
$150-$200. (or whatever it would be) charge. This thread is unbelievable. It's like old man river. It just keeps rolling along...

I have done a yearly drain and refill evey year since 80K miles on my wife's car. Currently at 125K miles and the shift is still smooth as butter. In fact the transmission filter and pan gasket was replaced as well at 110K miles.

uh, planned obsolescence.

does Lexus really want to sell a 'Lifetime vehicle'?
they are in business to sell new cars... to people that have old cars....

at 150k I'd say it couldn't hurt to change fluids, As Long as you do it correctly. -which I would guess is hard for dealer wrenches..

I don't think you understand the Japanese approach to life and that everything should be done to the highest standard.

Detroit perfected planned obsolescence. Thank goodness not ever other car manufacturer subscribes to the theory.

These comments about obsolescence made me smile... I'm 63... and up to 2007 I had never purchased an import like toyota or Lexus.. always had GM / Ford / GMC..... and most of those vehicles were pretty good cars, but the good ones were the older models.. the last few I had gave me issues... Had a Cadillac Sedan DeVille in the mid 90's and the motor was shot at just under 100K miles.. and yes, I took care of it just like I do my Lexus, change the oil with mobil 1 every 5K miles... after that we bought a new GMC Envoy.... I didn't want it, but my wife did so we bought it... biggest piece of crap I've ever owned... Nothing but problems...The month it was paid off I traded it in on a new 2007 Toyota Avalon... I was 52 at the time and my pops ( a die hard must buy american teamster ) hit the roof.. couldn't believe I bought a japanese car.. He was HOT... since the Avalon I have purchased a 2010 Toyota 4 Runner and a 2013 Lexus ES 350. Not one mechanical problem with any of those vehicles.. still have the 4 runner and the Es...If and when I buy another one, I'm sure I'll stick with either Toyota / Lexus.
