The updates comes out around Oct/Nov. wait until late Nov or so and call your dealer to see I feel they have the latest update. Two years ago I updated and it was about $170 if I recall correctly. Sounds. Like a chunk of change, but without Apple CarPlay such as the new ESs get, I do prefer the map screen in the car for convenience when I make in a new area.

the map update back then was definitely better. It had new item so, updated roads I need my area, and marked more green areas, too.

For a Generation 7 navigation system (2013-2014 ES), which is a hard drive system, the cost of the update is $169 + installation. For a Generation 8 or Generation 9 system (2015-2018), which are SD card systems, the cost is $210 + installation. I'm guessing that the installation costs could vary somewhat from one dealer to another.

To me, navigation is a rip-off with fat margins for Lexus and dealers. My cell phone mount in cup holder works great. I interact with it hands free using Siri interfaced to the car via bluetooth. I preload all directions and use the save feature before heading out and don't care if cell phone signal is not available in certain sections. The height of my cup holder brings the cell phone display to just below the main display in case I need to look.
