Hello guys. Newbie here about to pull the trigger on a very well maintained lexus certified '16 ES 350, fully loaded. As you guys know, lexus' warranty will cover up till March 2022 with unlimited miles, but I need your opinions on whether I should buy the extended warranty. (extra 3 years with unlimited - bumper to bumper - $2625) the current mileage is at 25000.

I can only speak for myself but my opinion is no, don't buy it. I have a 2013 ES, and when I bought mine new, I declined the extended warranty, and so far, I haven't had any issues what so ever. Some people buy them for the peace of mind, but my last three vehicle purchases have been a 2010 Toyota 4 Runner ( which I still have ) a 2007 Toyota Avalon and my 2013 Lexus ES 350. I didn't buy the extended warranty on any of them and have never had any problems.. So I would save the 26 hundred bucks.. Enjoy that new ES. Merry Christmas

Extended warranties are among the highest profit add-ons that a dealer can sell a customer. The mark-ups on extended warranties run in the range of a few hundred percent. A dealer can sell you a car at a price that represents only a very tiny profit, but, if that dealer can sell you an extended warranty and 1 or 2 other high profit add-ons, it can turn that deal into one of its highest profit deals.

Yes, there is a (very small) chance that your car could require a repair that is covered by the extend warranty and whose cost exceeds that of the extended warranty, but that is very unlikely to happen. If, instead of buying an extended warranty, you put the same money into a savings account dedicated to car repairs, over the course of ownership of a few cars, you are almost guaranteed to be thousands of dollars ahead.

I don't think so - Lexus are very good cars and repairs, though costly, are rarely enough to justify an extended warranty. A Lexus Platinum warranty might provide piece of mind but how much is that worth to you.
And as was just mentioned, warranty repairs vs. normal wear and tear is always an issue. I would enjoy the car and save my money.

Last 3 cars I had were either Toyoto or Lexus stretching back to 2005. Numbers of claims I would have had successfully on an extended warranty on any of them....zero. Absolutely zero.

IMHO no need for extended warranty. Lexus vehicles are very reliable and very seldom break down.
My 05 RX, 07 IS (totaled 2014), 09 G37, 17 ES - no warranty work done except for TSIBs.
ES is relatively cheap to repair.

I wouldn't get one on an ES. They're very simple, parts are inexpensive and easy to find, anybody can work on it. Toyota electronics are very reliable.

Now, on my LS with air suspension, if I keep it out of the lease I will buy a warranty.

No, no, no, it is a recognized problem with the sun roof assembly for '15-'16 models. They didn't look for the TSB or factory notices.
However, while you say CPO, is it Lexus CPO? Mine was, they fixed it, but it would have been big $$ otherwise. If the CPO isn't really Lexus I can understand their unwillingness to perform the full repair.

I notice in scanning inventories in NJ Lexus dealers not all of their 2016 + ES 350s are listed as CPO cars, is there a reason for this beyond the vehicle having accident repair or major warranty history and is the 3K +/- price boost that some posters have mentioned for CPO cars accurate. I follow Car Gurus and strictly Lexus dealers and many drop prices the longer a car sits on the lot obviously prices vary by mileage and how optioned out the car is, I am looking for a good deal without all the bells and whistles.

Dealers wont always certify cars. The certification costs them money, and if the car has low mileage they may not certify it. You can always add the certification.

FYI - Lexus vehicles that were involved in an accident can be sold as CPO vehicles... It's up to you to find out before you buy...
