anyone had any pano roof issues/replacement? I noticed on around the edge of the glass the paint is faded (car sits outside in Chicago weather). I’m taking it in since car is under factory warranty. My fear is they have to replace the glass is it worth the hassle however I’m **** it would drive me nuts seeing the issue everytime I got into my car.
The dealer just called me said to pick up a car, they said that they took pictures and put a claim with Lexus to see if they will cover it. He is saying it will take couple of days for Lexus to reply. He said that he is not sure if the pano will be covered since the defected area is a "wear" item. The car is still under factory warranty so I would think it still be covered. I'm almost afraid they didn't even call Lexus but I will check back with them after couple of days.
I'll take pictures when I pick up the car. Its around the edge of the Pano roof its like fading/cracking. Its toward the middle of the roof where the front glass meets the back glass. Not sure but it looks like the whole glass would need to be replaced.
I used to work for a company who assembled Pano Roofs. The rubber seal you are referring to is normally rated to withstand degradation under normal exposure to the sun, rain and snow. We do a "weatherability" cycle testing that represent 10 years of constant exposure to the elements. Take a picture and post it so I can see and tell you exactly what needs done.
If it were designed the same way as we built them (BMW and ACURA), the piece you are talking about is only snapped (and corners glued) on to the front movable panel. Hopefully it is. Means all they need to do is open the sunroof. Good luck and let us know. It will probably take time to order that piece of rubber.
Interesting that this piece failed. We subject this sunroof for “weatherability” testing simulating 10 years of exposure to sun, rain and snow. Hot and Freezing temps.
So I got a call from the manager of the service department. The manager noticed that the same fading/cracking is in the front and on the back of the pano roof (which I didn't not notice). They had to open a case with Lexus. Lexus is pushing back stating that it would not be covered under factor warranty which made no sense to me. The manager said he is trying to work something out with Lexus stating to replace the items one time under good faith for the customer. Although I appreciate what the manager is doing I am not sure why Lexus is pushing back to replace the failed pieces. The manager is still working with Lexus to try and take care of me but it doesn't sound promising.
Is there anything I can do if Lexus says they will not replace the failed rubber items? This makes absolutely no sense since the car is under factor warranty.

Weatherability Chamber for one. There's a whole industry focused on Testing cars, name it they can test it based on Automotive requirements. The 10 year tests are done with a simulation (compressed and proven). We have to submit certificates from accredited Testing Houses that our components have passed the testing. It is an expense that is baked in the car's retail price.
So Lexus IS not covering replacing the pano trim. They said since no wind noise or leak they will not replace. So upsetting since the car is under factory warranty.

It's just cosmetic? If so, it's probably considered a wear item. Those are never covered under warranty.
