Vehicle Service Agreement Transferability
Purchased a used 2016 ES 350 last week from a Acura dealer. Was going over everything in the car and found a Lexus Vehicle Service Agreement that the previous owner had bought and it states in the agreement that is valid till 2024 with unlimited miles and its transferable to the next owner. Going through the booklet that came with it, there is a page where the previous owner is supposed to sign and then mail the page in within 90 days with the new owner info.
So I guess my question is, the previous owner obviously has not signed the page transferring the VSC to me so any idea if that is really necessary or just a formality? I mean I would think it will be for a 3rd party but this is from Lexus.
How do I find out if the warranty is still valid and in effect?
It was purchased from the local Lexus Dealer here in Chicago.
Thanks

What is the company whose extended warranty it is?
Different companies have different rules regarding transferring their extended warranties. Some, for example, require payment of a fee to transfer the warranty. Also, some extended warranties allow for giving the car owner a partial refund to the original owner if the car is sold before the warranty period ends. If that was the case with the car that you bought, I'm sure that a partial refund would eliminate the opportunity to transfer the warranty.
In any case, I would suggest contacting the Acura dealer who sold you the car to see what they can do to assist in transferring the warranty.

As mentioned in the post, the VSC is from LEXUS.
This was a CPO and the previous owner bought a VSC from Lexus when he bought the car as cpo.
Also the transfer is FREE.
And just to reiterate, my question is
1) How do I know the VSC is still valid
2) How can I transfer it to me without the previous owners input.

There is a phone number but getting a VSC till 2024 with Unlimited miles transferred to me for free will be huge benefits wise. So I am trying to do this delicately as I am sure Lexus would like to find any reason not to transfer/honor the VSC for obvious financial reasons. So I am trying to be tactful in how I approach this and get the VSC transferred to my name without any hiccups. Going to the Acura dealer where I bought the car wont be any help as I am pretty sure they were not aware that there was a warranty on the car, not to mention they are trying to sell me one themselves.

When I purchased my new 2018 ES 350 last July. I took out a Lexus extended warranty for 3 extra years or 20,000 extra miles. I was told that if I sold the car I could transfer it or get a refund on remaining warranty.

Otherwise, it wouldn't make much sense that someone would buy an extended warranty that lasted until 2024, paid thousands of dollars for that extended warranty, and, then, sold or traded the car without getting a refund before the extended warranty's coverage period even started. But, you never know.

I have no idea whether the information is accurate or not, but I came across the post below on the CL Generation 4 RX board, and it may be relevant to the situation of the OP in this thread.

This is my first Lexus but I’ve had many many Toyota’s (parent company). As far as Toyota’s policy goes on Toyota’s as long as the titles a clear one the original warranty does transfer to subsequent owners. However you can only transfer an extended warranty if you purchase the car at a Toyota dealer.
