My Toyota dealer is very understanding and friendly about servicing my RX 350. I also can furnish parts if I so desire. I would recommend them to everyone!!!

I did run into a recent issue with a Toyota dealership...after the oil change the service consultant advised that they could replace my worn (5mm) front brake pads, skim the rotors and all for only $540. I found an independent mechanic who would do the job for a lot less (rotors did not need skimming); his problem was getting the Akebono pads I wanted. I called the Toyota dealership to get Toyota pads and they said they couldn't get Lexus parts. I told them they were the same as for Avalon. They said they didn't have any. I told them their own service department just quoted me a price...and asked the parts guy what pads would they use? He said they'd probably just pick up whatever aftermarket pads they could source locally! (But the service guy had quoted the official "Toyota book price" to do the job). I found a set of Akebono pads (ACT 1222) from the local NAPA dealer, bought them and my independent installed them...all for $215 (rotors did not need skimming). So.... watch out for what source your dealership uses for parts! (Prices $Cdn so take off about 1/4 for US equivalent).

Old post but yeah that’s what my Toyota dealer did when replacing the steering rack and struts on my 09 after I had requested oem parts. After I got it I looked at the part numbers and sure enough they bought from the local auto parts store and exactly doubled the part prices.

You go to a dealer and you pay dealer prices. Find a good local shop and save $. Toyota cars are the new Chevy, EVERY corner repair shop can fix ANYTHING that goes wrong on a Toyota. A dealer is really only needed for warranty repairs.

Hey, I even take my Jaguar to my local repair shop and they've not encountered a problem they couldn't fix. Car's out of warranty now, so I'd only take it to the dealer for any recalls.

But, I also have specialty Jaguar shops near me, for that black-swan event repair, should it ever come to that...

I agree. I would say the only time to take your Lexus to the Lexus dealer is for a serious engine problem, transmission problem, hybrid component problem (generator and/or battery) and of course, if it is still under warranty you should take it there for EVERYTHING :-)
