First Time Owner - Warranty Work
Hi all, I recently purchased a 2016 ES 350 with 31,xxx miles. I love the car so far, but have noticed the common sunroof rattle at low speeds. I also have been noticing a cluck after backing out of a parking space with the wheel all the way over, like a CV joint. Do I just need to call the local dealer to schedule an appointment for them to look at it? What's the usual process like with Lexus warranty, is there always a free loaner, is there any fees if they don't find anything or "can't replicate the sound"? I live close to an Elite dealer so I was going to take it there. Thanks for any input!

Does the sound seem to be coming from over your left shoulder? That was it for mine. It required a replacement of the full sunroof component, took weeks for the part to arrive and the work to be done. Yes it was covered by the warranty and yes they gave me a loaner.
Note: the problem may have been fixed by the time your car was produced. But you should definitely mention it to the dealer saying that it was a common problem with ES350s starting in 2013.

Not just ES from ‘13...many Toyotas use the same sunroof. A local Toyota dealer told me that they’d replaced the gasket on numerous ones to solve that issue. You could do a search here, there are several threads on the problem...sometimes loose bolts, cables, but frequently the gasket.

You are well within the 36 months full warranty and this certainly falls under the it. Take it in and claim it as a warranty item. They will let you know if are covered and if not, they will explain why not. Good luck.

In my experience, the dealer doesn’t charge for taking a look when it’s under warranty but I usually bring this up when I have scheduled maintenance or oil change. Whenever I have work done and it’s going to take a while, they offer a free loaner. Usually not offered when it’s just an oil change.
If they find something and it’s not covered by warranty, they’ll give you the price to fix it but you can decline.
