What Happens if TPMS is not used
Question - I have used Steel wheels with snow tires on my Avalons for the last 10+ years without the tire sensors. The low tire pressure icon never bothered me.. Now that I have moved into an ES350 I would like to do the same thing.. But with all the extra electronics on these newer models I want to make sure I have exhausted all of my avenues whether it can still be done. Again I am okay with the low pressure Icon staying on.. but what I can’t get answered is whether the systems flashes a big warning symbol like when you don’t brake in time for the car in front of me! Or any other warnings that I can’t think of at this time? Any thoughts? Or Ideas? Thank You!

Doing the same thing with my ES - debating whether or not to get an extra set of sensors for my winter set (whenever i find a set). I have read on here that you just get the TPMS light if u dont have the sensors - but agreed i hope its not a big warning in the dash.

Per the manual, all you should get is the yellow tire warning icon unless you have scrolled the multi-function display through to the tire pressure display. I have two friends who drive different models of Lexus and they don’t bother with sensors on their winter rims but just ignore the yellow icon. I will probably put tpms cloned to my ES when I get my winter tires because I wrecked a tire due to low pressure and driving in heavy snow so didn’t feel the steering pull in time. This will be my first winter with Lexus so I need to get tires, rims, and TPMS in the fall.
