2013 Lexus ES 300H ~ 67,000 miles

Was driving on the highway when the ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT came on (Red not amber). I immediately steered to the shoulder and glided to a stop. The car ceased propulsion at a certain point, so I ended up only partially on the shoulder. After turning off the car and then turning it back on, a number of lights came on (along with all the electronics such as navigation, radio, etc.) Even though the car was on, there was no propulsion and the steering wheel wouldn't turn.

Lights listed were:
- Power Steering,
- Check engine,
- ABS,
- Battery,
- Slip indicator,
- EV mode
- Traction control off

The master warning light and a few others did not light up. Car has been towed and is now at the dealer. Has anyone had anything like this happen before?

 

I was just reading on some hybrid Camry forum that it is a pretty rare but possible repair that comes up. Word on there was that if no codes showed up then dealer recommends replacement of the rack and pinion system at around $2k cost. Different forum and vehicle but just ran across that today while riding the train.

 

Could be caused by rodent damage
