Default 2015 base radio issues

Bought my wife a used 2015 ES without nav in Feb this year and she daily drives it to work since she has had it the radio randomly stops working. She is unable to turn it on / off or use any of the buttons. the only way to get it working is to turn off the car then turn it back on.

Anyone had this problem and has a fix? Loose connection doesn't make sense since it doesn't happen all the time and it works after restarting the car. So it leads me to believe it's a software problem.

She plays music through her iPhone so I'm thinking it could be a software issue but it would cost almost the same amount to buy a new radio instead of going to the dealer and have them look at it lol. Just looking for a diy fix.

I remember reading a post in gen 6 where the member pulled the fuse out, waited a few seconds and reinstalled it. Solved his issue... Worth a try as the price is right...

I don't know what the cause of the problem is, but you can re-boot the radio/infotainment system without having to shut down the engine. Just press the volume down button on the left side of the steering wheel and hold it down for about 10 seconds. That will cause the system to reboot.

Holding down the volume **** for 5 seconds will reboot the radio. At least no need to power cycle the whole car.

I have had exactly the same problem maybe 3 times or so with my '14ESh. I told the dealer and he gave me a skeptical look. I knew I am not crazy. I look it and sometimes behave like it but I know I am not crazy! In my case the radio, the phone, the map, everything goes dead.

Thank you for instructions on how to reboot the audio system.
