Hey there, I am very new to this forum and tried to find a topic here for Struts Replacement.

Long story short, bought 2013 Lexus with 80K miles August 2019 and now have 87K miles after just 4 month. Started hearing rattling noise on rear left shock observer / struts. The sound come clearly from upper side and noticeable on every turn, pothole and a speed bump. A mechanic quoted me for $1000+ for a pair of oem struts with 4.5 hours of labor. That’s too pricy so I decided DIY this issue. Found KYB struts that sound to be a good replacement and paid for it $120 per a strut. These units include upper mount and all, so that’s the whole assembly with a coil spring. Seems like - 4-5 hour job for both sides.

have anyone seen the same issue on about the same mileage / age? I feel like it is a bit unusual to get them replaced already..

KYB SR4397 and KYB SR4396 parts

 

They can fail at that mileage.
Get an alignment after the installation.
Also, check your rear trailing arm bushings for cracks, failure etc. Then check your sway bar links for failures.

 

are those KYB a good replacement for oem lexus?
