Default Sunroof motor replacement

Just got some bad news. A gap has opened up around the sunroof and I just took it to the dealer. The car had the sunroof repaired under warranty two years ago. So, when I noticed the gap I thought it was related to that. Just heard from the dealer and learned that the sunroof motor has to be replaced to tune of $1600. Ouch
I suppose I have to do it, since the car only has 40K miles on it and we really like, but just the same.
Has anybody else encountered something like this?
They have me a new ES and boy is it nice, damn them...

Just heard back from the dealer, they didn't quote the right thing. $1,600 to replace the entire sunroof assembly, only $1100 to replace the motor.
Shucks...

Are you certain that it doesn't just need the gasket replaced or some of the screws/bolts tightened? There are several threads throughout this CL site that mention this and I checked with a Toyota dealer and he confirmed that the same design is used on several of their vehicles and the sunroof is an on-going issue. If it's just the gasket being worn/dried out then you're looking at less than $100 if you DIY. If it's loose bolts then even less expensive. I know I'd sure check that first before bruising my credit card.

The moonroof gasket takes a beating from the sun. This is why every 4-6 months I use this on all the seals.

Ya, that's about right, $500 for the part and $700 for installation.
But at least the loaner car is nice...
