some newer cars cars don’t have a dipstick , only a warning light and it’s way down when that lights up. See Volvo as an example, one reason I didn’t buy one.

Would like to do my first oil change to start my base line on my new to me 2016 ES 350. Thought I had it figured it out but my Youtube University has got me a little confused.
Mobile 1
Amsoil
Castrol
Motul sp? thats for u Steve
Then I want to be absolutely sure I use the best oil filter as well..........
Mobile 1 has their own
Amsoil has their own
etc etc
I just want to be sure the oil is flowing at the correct rate ........
Maybe I will just do what Steve does.....he seems to know what he is talking about.........Motul sp and TRD filter?
I was hoping on changing my oil tomorrow but whatever I go with will be what I stick with.....whats it gunna be boys?
There are so many oil threads I know I know......consider this just a 2020 quick check in..........

Oil: Amsoil Signature or Pennzoil Platinum synthetic. You can drive 8000 miles. I wouldn't go much over that.
Filter: Lexus OEM (Second choice: Purolator classic)
Call me crazy but I can feel a performance difference depending on the filter I use, especially after time. Maybe due to flow rate? IDK..
BTW: I drive my car professionally and put close to 300 miles per day.

Ok it looks like I will be able to sleep tonight. The trick is just to let the car sit overnight ...
Ah haaaaa ya u see it in pic #4 right???? Well its there in every pic u just cant see it....and if u dont let it sit over night the oil is all over the stick....no start and stop point.

I guess you can let sit overnight and just assume the level is indicating a little higher than it should be, in which case it should be on the high side.

Makes me wonder how many cars that go through the quick lube shops have incorrect fluid levels......I mean they are trying to turn cars around fast so they dont have time to let oil drain completely. Then they pour in fresh oil and check real quick then send u out the door. Now since they dont drain all the old oil out I will assume the new oil looks dirty enough to see on the stick. They def dont have time to run your car for a while then wait 5 minutes for the oil to settle then check again.
I still havent added my .4 that I am low.......I have only driven the car about 5 miles since the oil change. I think I will go out there right now and top her off.

99% of all cars on the road have oil changed by a mechanics shop, a dealer, a quick lube place. These places do not wait for oil to "settle" its just inefficient. The vehicle manufacturer has an amount for a "fill from empty" and from an oil change, they know how much old oil stays behind, and from there its just math. They know how much oil to put in, and that results in a more or less proper fill point and they send the car off.
So, most of the cars have oil changed this way and they are all fine.

On my Lexus and my 4runner I used some fine sandpaper to rough up the lower part of the dipstick a little, it helps the oil stick to it. I also pull the dipstick, wipe it off, re-insert but leave it out about 4 inches and wait for several minutes, the check. Letting it sit overnight is the best method, but sometimes not feasible.
On a good note I have never had to add any oil to either vehicle.
I use either Toyota synthetic or mobil 1 with OEM Toyota filters.

Agree 100%. I buy my Mobil 1 at Walmart, a 5 quart jug for $23. Mobil runs a $12 rebate twice a year in the spring and fall so net amount is $11 for five quarts or $2.20 a quart. A quart of Amsoil is $13.30 a quart. It is the law of diminishing returns. If the Amsoil is better I seriously doubt it is six times better. Have run Mobil 1 in my engines for well over a million miles and of course had no engine problems.

As long as one buys name brand oil such as Valvoline, Castrol, Quaker State, Shell, Mobil, and on and on, you're golden. No need to spend anything additional...
