The people working in a manufacturing plant aren't craftsmen. Largely the assembly of a vehicle is automated and done by robots.

Over the last 35 years, I've owned about 15 Nissan/Infiniti or Toyota/Lexus vehicles. About half were built in the US and about half were built in Japan. I've felt that the build quality of both the cars built in Japan and those built in the US was excellent, but, for many years, I thought that the fits and finishes and overall quality of the ones built in Japan was just a bit better.

I've owned two Generation 6 ES vehicles, a 2013 ES built in Japan and a 2017 ES built in Kentucky, and my experience with those two vehicles has led me to change my thinking.

The fits and finishes on the 2013 ES built in Japan were okay, but they were far from perfect. With both exterior panels and interior trim panels, alignment of panels and uniform gaps between panels were far from perfect. With my 2017 US built ES, panel alignment, both interior and exterior is about as perfect as can be, as is the uniformity of gaps between panels. And the 2013 Japan-built ES had several annoying rattles/squeaks that I had to deal with. The 2017 US-built ES is completely free from squeaks and rattles.

Based on my experience with both a Japan-built Generation 6 ES and US-built Generation 6 ES, I would have no trouble at all buying another ES built at the Kentucky plant, and I would feel confident that the build quality was likely to be at least every bit as good as that of an ES built in Japan.

I went to check my 2017 ES350 and saw that the front driver side had it but the front passenger and both rear doors did not have them. No, you're not the only one. I'm gonna buy those pieces. Thanks for pointing it out.

To reiterate and agree with with Lesz said, I have owned a 2014 ES and now a 2017 ES both very similarly equipped option-wise. I as well can tell no difference between the quality and construction of either vehicle and would not hesitate to purchase another US built ES if I decide to do so when my lease is up early next year. I admit that it was a concern initially but after almost 3 years of ownership I no longer have that concern. PS: REgarding the original post I never did check the 2014 for the carpet pieces mentioned and I have as of yet not checked the 2017 either but I will do so next time I drive it, which in this current pandemic climate may be a while yet!

I ordered the front passenger door pull handle cover from LexusPartsNow.com. I placed the order on 5-7-2020 and got it on 5-11-2020.

After testing to see if the front passenger part was good to go, I ordered both for the rear and they were $6.55 a piece and shipping was $8.62 and tax $0.79 for a total of 22.51. All from LexusPartsNow.com
