Passenger CV boot failed on 2014 ES350 August 2018 with 53k on it. Replaced by dealer under warranty.
it failed again January 2020 with 70k on ODO. How does the same passenger boot fail twice within a short period of time?
dealer said it’s because it’s rubber—uh, the driver side is just fine and hasn’t failed yet. What gives?
Any ideas what to look out for? This seems uncommon/rare. Completely stock, including tire size. 85% highway miles.

Something is not right. CV boots last a long time, especially in a mild climate. If they only changed the boot and not the entire axle it could be the CV joint itself. Very possible (but rare) it is a CV joint issue from the manufacturer.
Have you owned it since new? If used could it have already been changed? Did you see the boot yourself?
Other possibilities are;
- Something other than the boot is leaking (axle seal etc)
- Something is rubbing or chafing the boot while driving
- A leak of some sort from engine/tranny weakening the rubber
- Hitting something in the road (not twice though)
Sorry I am not much help, just throwing out ideas.

I previously owned a 2009 ES. I had two boot failures that were covered by extended warranty. They were 6 months apart and the same location. The service advisor could never provide a satisfactory answer. I now have a 2015 ES and have not experienced any cv boot failures, knock on wood.

I believe it was the inner boot that failed this time so they replaced both. Alas, covered under the extended CPO warranty.
Parts were $130, labor was $400 —had not been covered under warranty.
