Default Lost Car Keys - Long Shot

Well, I’ve gotten spoiled with my Apple Watch ‘cause I can click a button and my iPhone dings in the house and I can find the iPhone.

Today I seemed to have misplaced my Lexus car keys (OK, key fob) and cannot find it. On the off chance, is there any electronic method to locate lost car keys.

Tomorrow I resort to searching room by room...<grumble><grumble>....

Check everything in the laundry hamper first. Been there, done that.

Default lost keys

Good idea to look in the laundry hamper. Not only have I done that multiple times, but my key fob has also gone for a wash and tumble dry on several occasions. Fortunately it still works, though the leather cover has not fared as well.

If the car will start the fob must be inside somewhere - under seat, in trunk?

Well, I had to fix our wooden fence, So I took my Lexus out of the garage and parked it in front of the house. Then I got my keys to my wife’s 1996 Camry Wagon (with third seat) and headed to Home Depot. The Camry can hold a 10’ 2x4 with the trunk closed—try that with any modern “mini” SUV (which isn’t as “U”tilitarian, IMHO). Anyway, my Lexus keys ended up falling out of my pocket and into the side of the drivers seat. I eventually found them there.

My wife won’t give up her wagon. We’ve used it for everything, It has a flat/vertical hatch hence the cargo area can actually hold more and bigger square boxes. Ever look at the slant of the Lexus RX? How do you put in a tall, square box? Plus a third row seat for little ones. And being a lower roof with a rack, it is easy to put things on and carry. Dunno what it is about SUVs these days. I’m a sedan guy, but we’re not giving up her Camry Wagon (just “UV”, no sport.)

Thanks, y’all!

So the key fob ended up where the cell phone is usually found. 🤔👍🏻

If you're concerned for the future, there's a product called Tile that hooks to your key ring. You can track its location with your phone, and have it ring to make it easier to find when it's hidden.

I have never liked the Fob. Always seemed even easier to lose track of compared to key. I did do a test though to see if it could accidentally locked in the car. The car would not lock with the Fob inside the car when I touched the door handle. Of course I did this in the driveway with the other Fob in the house.

I refuse to use Tile. A good product, but that would indicate I can't handle my stuff...LOL! ESully, you are correct. The car will not lock with the fob inside, hence I knew it wasn't in MY car.

With my own keys, I've very rigorous about my personal "process" of where I put things, etc. This was different 'cause I had to use my wife's car shortly after moving my car out of the garage...<wine><wine>...LOL!

Thanks, all. Heh.

Wait until you get old...you will not remember where you put your keys. Wish there was a reasonably priced tracker which you can attach to your keys.

You know that it has gotten even worse when you go upstairs to look for the missing car keys, but, when you get upstairs, you can't remember why you came upstairs.

+1 on Tile - I've lost my keys and wallet enough times for my wife to get a Tile pack for me. I'm going to put Tile on my kids at this point when the shelter-in-place is lifted =)
