Default Battery Drain

I have a 2013 ES350 with 55k miles. My 8 mos old battery drains to 5% overnight. AAA came out and load tested the battery and it checked out good. I’ve run an OBC scan and it comes back with 0 codes. Warning lights do not show any problems. Any suggestions?

There is a TSB on "network gateway" computer draining the battery when the car is off.

Link to TSB:

Unfortunately the repair is not covered once the car is out of warranty.

Many thanks! I can stop looking for the culprit.

My ES had the issue and was fixed via the TSB a couple years ago. You seem to be experiencing a different issue, unless it gets progressively worse over time. If you're draining a new battery that quickly, you should run a check and see what is not shutting down properly.

That sounds way worse than the TSB issue, that was a much slower drain. Any sort of aftermarket alarm or stereo?

That level of drain should be really easy for a tech to find.

If you want to do it yourself, get a test light or multimeter, take the negative battery cable off and put the test probe in between the negative cable end and the negative battery post. Pull fuses one by one and put back, when you've found the right fuse, the light will go out. Also use with a multimeter (more accurate way) and watch the amps drop when the right fuse is pulled. You then know where the drain is occurring and you can zero in on that,

Thanks for your input. I took the car to the local Lexus dealership and they ran their diagnostic tests and determined that it was the network gateway that was causing the problem. They talked to Lexus and agreed to replace the gateway under warranty. They even had a guy drive the 20 miles to my home with a loaner at no charge. Good show for Lexus!

Could you please confirm they did this even so the car is out of warranty? The TSB only authorizes repairs within warranty.

Obviously I’m not going to challenge them, but the invoice provided clearly states remove and replace network ECU Gateway p/n 89111-33110 at no charge. Good enough for me!
