Default Radar cruise question

Anyone know if you can disable the radar cruise screen from constantly popping up in the center screen next to speedo while in use? Thanks

No, I don’t think so. You can actually revert to basic cruise, which turns off the radar. Had to use that a few times in snow and rain, when the radar can’t function. It’s in your handbook.

I tried out the radar cruise feature last weekend for the first time and wished I could turn off the radar detection. I didn't know if it was even possible. You answered my question... Thanks.

I dislike using the radar cruise control because it functions erratically when going around a bend. Several times it has caused the brakes to slam on when it detected another car in a lane next to mine. I disable it by holding in the cruise button for 2 seconds or until the radar notification screen disappears. I'm much happier driving the car using the traditional cruise I've grown up using.

Note that the procedure for disabling the radar cruise control is different, depending on whether it is a 2013-2015 ES or a 2016-2018 ES.

I don't know what the model year of the OP's ES is.

You do not turn off Radar cruise and get to dumb cruise directly.
When you turn on speed control with a quick press (stalk end <2018, steering wheel button >2019)
you get Dynamic Radar cruise. Adjust the range (short/med/long) to suit conditions with the "front waves button"
When you turn of the speed control with a long held press the green icon will switch from the "speedo w/arrow + car"
to the old "speedo w/arrow" and you are back in good ole manual cruise mode.

OK Thanks... Saved me a trip outside to get the manual from the trunk and checking if anyone is within 6' of my car...

My experience in my 2017 has been nothing but positive with respect to this. I'm actually quite surprised at how well it works. Unless you have an older model car that this was an issue in, you might want to have that checked out.

I use my DRCC all the time. Works well. Granted, it could be better. Looking at the online vids of Safety 2.0+ seems like they fixed a few issues, too. I have a 2014 ES/UL and this is a "first gen" DRCC, I suppose.

I appreciate your comment and concern. My 2017 was leased as a new leftover after the 18's came out. It was a late 2017 model-year build. Not sure if that makes a difference or not but I will inqurie at the dealer next time I'm in for inspection or service. That being said, perhaps it depends on the angle of curve one is going around when it picks up a car in an adjacent lane. The roads here in NC can be particularly sharp at times.

I am OP and my ES is a late 2016. Normally I’m happy with the radar CC and I use it a ton, I just wish it wouldn’t keep popping its icon up every time someone gets in the lane even 1/4 mi ahead of me. It’s kind of distracting and I just wonder why it’s designed like that.

No problem. Wish I were as comfortable using it as you. Just wanted to give you an option to avoid the pop-up altogether. AFAIK there is no way to disable the popup when using the radar cruise.

Probably to give mistrustful drivers like me reassurance that yes, it does see that car up there, you can stop worrying now.
